Friend of mine came upon this car at his shop. Its an 03 with 79K miles, Auto, Power windows/locks. Body has a crease from the passenger door under the side moulding back to the rear fender. Interior he said is a 7/10. He did also said the clear coat was starting to peel on the roof of the car. It cranks but will not start which he believes is the rod bearings are toast. Would be easy to just swap engine and go and have a nice beater and get good mileage.
He is looking to get $2500 for it. Obviously pick up only, and will obviously have to be towed away.
Car is located in Tinley Park, IL at his shop I believe.
Also trying to get pics of the interior, and engine bay as well.

it looks like a good car but daaaaym, $2500?
lower mileage but hell, i got my silver 00 z24, fully loaded, 110k, zero rust and in decent conditon with blown LD9 for $375.
i know of a couple ppl looking for a beater, ill send em over here anyway but is he willing to come down at all?

$2500 seems a little high for a car that needs a motor. I also don't believe the rod bearings are stopping it from starting unless they are seized to the crank.

Thats the price he set. I mean if it did spin a bearing... parts to fix that are under $500 if you can just polish the crank. if you have to replace it, its not much over $500. He said it turns over but will not start. Just assumed it spun a bearing.
to be honest, if it were me and doing it all myself, id have a good dd/beater cav for under $3000... you dont even want to know what running ones with WAY more miles are going for right now..... ill give you a hint... $6000-8000. and thats with 100K+ on the odometer. its horrifying.
this is in no way my car nor do i have the time or funds to get it. If I could, I probably would. Just trying to help a friend.

6000-8000?? Yeah, they are called Cobalts.
Okay, I somewhat think they are overpriced. I got my '03 LSS with 50,777 back in December '09 for just under $5500.

plenty of cavaliers in my area going for 1000-5k with low miles. but then again there are just as many reaching up to 9,000.
Asking 9000 for a cavalier does not mean it sells for 9000 dollars. This car is worth about 3000 running, so why would anyone waste time and money to fix it when they could just find one and drive it? Ive got 1000 cash ill give if he is interested but im not about to drop 2500 and put a motor in it. That $1000 was a serious offer, let me know.
If you do decide to get it and fix the current engine it's going to have to come apart pretty far to clean the oil passages of debris. If you don't you are asking for problems later.
I got my 95 base model for $300, just needed ac work. I got it for so cheap I just drove it until it died 26k miles later, with no oils changes. I bet it would have ran longer if I had changed the oil when I did the head gasket on it.

shoot, id buy it for $1000 just to part it out.
hell, for $2500 I'll sell my 03 ( in sig) no motor trans or wheels
