The bypass that's on the heater hose... is that really needed or could you just run lines to and from the core without it?

ive deleted them multiple times w/o problems. I thinks it a diverter valve in case of the core plugging up or becoming restricted. The heater core completes the coolant loop for closed thermostat operation.
