Currently on my car i have Vibrant's catback exhaust with a 18" magnaflow resonator in the middle. When the system was first put in a year ago it was nice and acceptable but since then being broken it its gotten louder to rather annoying levels. I'm debating actually replacing the system with a full stock exhaust so i come here for advice. Go stock, bigger resonator, what else?
i actually just put a magnaflow on my 03(just the muffler, not the full exhaust) and it sounds really good, had people asking me almost all day what i have for an exhaust, and its not that loud, dont even know its there at idle, has a nice low tone under normal driving, and screams when you come on to it
Mine was like that at first, now it's just annoying.
you could just change the muffler
Any recommendations? or just go back to O.E?
I suppose you could add a second resonator if needed. I would imagine the vibrant catback is larger than stock resulting in some gains. Like it was said you you change the muffler. My buddy is running a cherry bomb vortech and its suppose to be one of the highest flowing mufflers out there but yet its still baffled so its super quiet (that is on a turboed civic with a resonator. I may have a vid of the car/echaust but he doesn't really want it online so I could see if he'd let me pm the vid to you or something. It sounds really nice, super quiet for what the car is but you know its not quite stock, which I think you'd probably appreciate.
If you could do that it would be much appreciated. I don't want it to sound stock cause i do like the way the Vibrant sounds but its just not practical. On the highway with 3 people the person in my back seat can not hear me at all.
Well I'll have to call my buddy and see if he will let me send it to you. He kinda wants to keep his car on the DL (down low, haha). I have a feeling u would like it if your looking for something a little quieter with still some performance and a bit of sound.
doesnt bother me, i like having my cars loud anyway, when i get a truck this summer/fall first thing its getting is new mufflers
just put a turbo inline, it will quiet the sound down for ya
Haha I wish that was a possibility.
Well I just realized my buddy has a little more than just the muffler to keep it quiet. It has a turbo, high flow cat, resonator and the cherry bomb vortex. So thats why its as quiet as it is. Maybe a high flow cat would help you out.
Yeah I'm going to look into that and maybe fitting a longer resonator, 22" possibly.
Dynomax super turbo muffler will solve it.

+ this, even bigger if you can, + the high flow cat as discussed, (btw i happen to have one for sale for cheap, brand new, stainless, o2 bung, also have the dynomax super turbo
, brand new) and you'll have a great flowing, quiet but not too quiet exhaust.

I am the guy that Matt was talking about. My car is pretty quiet for having a full 3" exhaust system. It also has a very deep sound when just driving around casually. I am pleased with my exhaust system. I would say it is the quietest high flowing exhaust system in my area.
I would probably add a second resonator if I were you, instead of getting a bigger one. I heard a Del Sol with a turbo, two resonators and a high flow muffler and it was sooooooooo quiet. And the whole exhaust system was 3". I bet was as quiet as stock. It was actually ridiculous! So without the turbo, it would probably be a tiny bit louder, which I would guess would put it some where around what you are looking for.
You mentioned that the length will help with sound levels, well the overall diameter helps as well as it provides more sound dampening material. Just make sure you can fit it under your car. My resonator is 5" in diameter (IIRC) , maybe you can get away with an inch bigger. Just tossing that out there.
