so i got a 2006 cobalt RS after selling my sunfire which i had running a good solid 210hp@6500rpm. im wondering what the best options are for bumping the power of this 2.2 ecotec (l61) to about 170hp. dont rlly want to monkey with the internals yet, just stick with bolt ons. i was thinking CAI, larger throttle body, high flow injectors, and 2.5" exhaust w/ high flow cat.
any ideas on whether that would get me near my goal. the ecotec is new to me, i know tones about the ld9 and quad4's but this is a new beast and i am gonna have it for years so i don't want to go overboard with stuff that could shorten the life of the engine.
just looking for what kind of stuff has worked well for other people.
yes i used the search.
Because you didn't mention it, a header. The LE5 intake manifold would be good for you, too. Since you're in a cobalt, you don't necessarily HAVE to retune to use it, iirc. You could use a lightweight or underdriven crank pulley, too. There are several out there. Bolt ons really limit what you're going to get out of it. Upgrading your cams and valvetrain could help in getting you where you want.

i was considering the stage 1 cams i have all the stuff i need to do that. cept the cams obviously. and i saw things on another form there that mentioned swapping a 2.4l mani onto the 2.2 and id be up for that.
i figure 170hp is not an unreasonable goal for bolt ons. i mean i got the ld9 running 210 with pistons, secret cam swap, high flow injectors, and exhaust and a k&n filter with stock intake.
Tuning is a bit of a problem for you. This PCM is not supported by HPTuners. I am not aware of a source for tuning it.

This, I wouldnt really expect to see anything more than 160 wheel without going with a standalone ecu.

aparantly there is a guy in chilliwak (1 days drive there and a day back) that does trifecta tuning. would that not be able to do the tuning i need for this?
They do support that car so I guess you would be good to go with about anything. He does good tunes, so they say (or at least as good as it gets from a mail order tune).

nitrous. best bang for your buck modification. endthread/
so i was looking and it turns out its a 2005 not 2006. so the air injection in the exhaust isn't a issue

Vince at trifecta can do something for him. It is, however, up to him if he wants to engage in remote tuning.
