ive been told there is a thread somewhere about the one long tube header built by GM. Does anyone know about this?
just talk to eric, he has one or two of them at his house. if youre nice he might let you actually see one lol
Eat my shift
ive seen them both...he is the one that told me to ask. we are looking for the old thread.
What info are you looking for? I know they existed, becaue they had them on prototype/show cars. I know one of the 4 door Ecotec show cars had one. I think the 263 cavalier had one as well.
FU Tuning
i was just looking for size info on them. I know Eric has them, and I know that he will let them be copied if the price is right, but i just wanted stuff like primary sizesand all that.
have you looked into the rd fabs header at all?
tinkles runs one and the primaries are massive!
Does anyone know the size of the primaries on the one from RD fabs?
Not off hand but they list it on their website.
yeah i saw em...
i am beginning to think no one would have interest in this anyway.
I would love to get a long tube, torque step header for my car, that put the collector somewhere past the firewall. Sadly I don't think anyone will ever make one....and if they do it will be a million dollars.
I've seen some K20 long tube headers on ebay for about $300, the bore size on a K20/Ecotec is the same so the ports should line up fairly well if you cut off the K20 flange and weld on an Ecotec one.
Maybe that will be my winter project or something.....we will see.

Well I have been talking to AMMFAB about it, and he seems to be on board if everything can be worked out, there is a header that i want duplicated, and will be hopefully talking to all the people involved within a few days.
I know that RDFabs has the long tube, and has hosted these pics. The two headers in these pics came off of SEMA show cars.
Here are pics. The one I want is the one with the black band around it.
The one with the yellow writing seems odd since it chokes off then goes back to larger tubing unless its to clear the firewall or something.
hopefully we can have some explination about them later tonight.
That one that tapers at the collector is a megaphone merge collector, which is a great merge collector.....good for peak horsepower and a nice flat torque curve.
Those aren't really long tube headers tho, that one of the left looks like a Pacesetter with the downpipe attached to it. The runner lengths look to be the same length.
I'm looking for something like this.....
it would be nice to have the collector somewhere under the car.
they were built by wheel to wheel for a couple gm prototype/show cars.

We decided on 2" O.D. runners instead of 2" I.D. runners. So the inside diameter is very close to 1-7/8". And honestly the 1/8" isnt going to matter much at all. Plus the 2" O.D. was a decent amount cheaper than the 2" I.D.
Anywho, im pretty sure that im the only one running it. That makes me alittle sad because it wasnt meant to be a one off item. The collector sits right behind the steering rack.
its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa
hmmm...ok then thanks for the info tinkles. I will be talking to everyone here in the next few days and see what can be done. Newt, i want a long tube aswell. my plans were gonna be to have this one extended.
Just need to figure out cat and o2 placement and that kinda stuff.
newt wrote:For a cobalt obviously, I wonder how tight of a fit it would be.....
RD Fabs mocked/test fit my header up on a 06 Cobalt SS/SC and it didnt need any tweaking to fit my cav. It's possible it could fit.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.
I'm thinking its an optical illusion.

Looks like it starts to bend right at the collector, which wouldnt be far from where a normal jbody 4-1 header dp bends..but would there be enough room for 4 runners to go down that far?
Somebody buy it and test it out

Not going to take that risk with $569. And why is there a different sku for the ion version?
