Just swap 2000 2.4l into a 98 cavalier that had a 2.4l in it but the check engine lite is on b/c the knock senor on the car has one wire and the new motor has two wires. Is there a way the i can fix this.
yes, i hate to say it but you'll need to drill the knock sensor hole larger and then tap it for the bigger thread.
or.. weld a nut to the block that has the right thread. up to you.
180hp in 1989 or 145hp in 2002, you decide. >
still dont follow but the knock sensor on the new motor has two wires and knock sensor on the old motor has one
the one with (2) wires is the 96-98 style and older. it just happens to be larger.
the one with (1) single wire is the 99-02 style and newer. it actually has a smaller bolt that holds it on.
you have a 98 so you need the older (2) wire style.

its two different knock sensors... that are two different sizes... the block has a smaller hole on the 00+ and a larger hole on the pre99
i had to use a helicoil to make a 97 block work in my 2000... you have to drill the block out
you can't swap the knock sensors over, the 98 computer will not read the 2000 sensor...
