ok so new to tuner group and trying to find programmer/throttle body spacer/air intake etc, small things for added power till i get my hands on a turbo. its for a 2004 2.2 sunfire and cant find any of these online...any suggestions?
HPtuners is your best bet for tuning...no programmers for these cars. Throttle body spacers dont help either. Do an air intake and a full exhaust with header, mounts, maybe a bigger throttle body, some cams.
HPtuner? please explain this foreign object..sorry again im new lol
by the way...how can i put a pic in my sig like you guys
thank you very much. i now every one gets tired of noobs. but this one is very thankful
and any suggestions on air intake? idk how well k&n will work me and a few friends had trouble with them on other vehicles taking in too much air and killing at a idle
kristian barnard wrote:and any suggestions on air intake? idk how well k&n will work me and a few friends had trouble with them on other vehicles taking in too much air and killing at a idle
I've never heard of anybody having that problem. If the car can't handle the extra air of the intake, the fuel system is definetely in bad shape. The car should be able to easily adjust for extra airflow.
Your best bet for an intake is one from ebay, the usualy fit with no problem, and a pipe with a filter, is a pipe with a filter. You can usualy find them anywhere from $5-$40. If you want to improve it, pick up a k&n filter and put it on the end of your ebay pipe. Or buy a fancy name brand intake, but these will cost upwards of $100.
I would also suggest doing ALOT of reading before you go and blow money on something like hptuners. Its not cheap, and its not very easy to use. Sure there are some pretty easy thing you can do with it, but to get your money's worth out of it, you need to know what you are doing.
well what the whole hptuner thing is sounding to me is like pretty much letting someone throw it on a dyno and tuning it. except im doing the tuning and with no dyno

A dyno is ideal, but I guess you could get away without using it. But the tuning is not easy, and it isn't really worth it unless you plan on adding alot to the car. If you are looking at buying hptuners, you may as well look at a wideband o2 sensor aswell. Tuning is not cheap, and if you only have a few bolt-on parts, it probably isn't the more cost effective upgrade for your car. All depends on how much you are willing to spend, and how much power you honestly expect to be getting out of the car when you are finally done with it. The more you do to the car before tuning it, the more of an improvement the tuning can make for you. Otherwise you have to retune whenever you change something (which is easier if you are doing it yourself, but expensive if you pay someone to do it everytime).
well honestly i dont plan on tuning it until i get a turbo and all of the parts to support it. and more then likely ill just take it to a dyno and let them tune it. im just simply looking for some mods for now untill then that will creat, at the very least, noticable horse power. and also was wondering the easiest way to kill my governor. i cut off at 110 lol

ugh...you dont need it removed. Your car can't handle that speed (not to mention the tires).

give me one reason why you need it removed.

why do you say it cant handle it?
maybe u can handle it, but can ur car? what suspension mods do u have? and if u had the mods to get u to that speed in the 1/4 mile u'd know how to get rid of it. this topic has been covered a million times. blieve me u have no reason to get rid of/disable it yet.

Unless you are trapping @ 110, then you don't need to change/remove your limiter.
Stock tires are rated roughly the same speed, and your average J-body's stock suspension setup will respond horribly with high speeds and normal roads.
If you want to do mods, I suggest a good catback exhaust, better tires (like Falken Azeni 615's), and HP Tuners software.
Anything like manifolds and intakes are kind of pointless until you buy them WHILE you are buying your turbo system. There's no sense in buying a bigger exhaust manifold, only to realize that you need a new one with a turbo flange on it.
Exhaust and tires is always a good way to go!

if your getting a turbo in the near future do not waste your money on a header as you should know the reason why
yea but i wont be touching a turbo till i get the money so bout this time next year. still gotta pay for school lol
then get your self some pacesetter headers and a full exhaust
you should try the search button...there is a lot of information on this site...pacesetter is a company that makes headers, google it!

ill be nice and help out with questions but im not going to hand over every link
I'm not being mean, just thought I would throw the search button out there cause there is all the info he is looking for on here. Just for a little heads up I'm pretty sure threads get locked when they discuss removing the speed limiter. If your serious about doing a turbo kit you'll figure out how to change the speed limiter if you need to. Stock suspension/tires/brakes would need to be upgraded for high speeds and especially running higher hp with a turbo setup, but I'm sure you'll find out everything you need to on here.
Josh - I hope you don't hand over every link for him, from the sounds of things he is very new to this and all the reading would be good for him but by all means if you want to point him in the right direction thats fine too. Just thinking a few minutes of searching would find most of the info he is looking for.
Anyways, have fun with your build.
