I posted this in the Third Generation Forum as well, but figured I would get more responses here.
First of all, is a 2.2 ecotec any better than a 2200 or should i just save up and get a supercharged 2.4? Second, would a 2.2 ecotec switch out with a 2200 with the ecotec being from a 2003 and the 2200 being in a 1998 car and would it then pass the NYS OBD II inspection? OR should I just leave everything alone and put a turbo or nitrous on my 2200?
Also what are some other good upgrades for a 2200? Already have exhaust done and cold air intake on the way.
don't do a supercharged 2.4 just swap in an eco and get the eco charger much better then the 2.4 now if your car is a 98 theres more work to swapping an eco in then a 2.4 would be

Never mind sounds like too much work. Maybe I'll just turbo my 2200 and call it a day.
i made the same mistake when buying a cavalier i did my research as to which was the better of the 2 motors just didnt know there was such a big difference between
ld9 pre 2000 (2.4l twin cam) and ld9 pos 2000 (2.4l twin cam echotech) and i sure would not have chosen purple
if i would have known there was a diff i would have gone with the 2004 4 door 2.2 echo it had a charger and was a 5 speed they wanted $3k more for it ... more hp and torque plus a little softer on the wallet in the long run it had just come out of gm inspection...

Let me say from experience. Just buy the car with the engine you want. Obviously the 2200 was not meant for you since you are into performance. Just buy a 2000 plus z24 or a car with an ecotec already especially if you might be interested in boosting it in the future.

well i have a z24 2.4 twin cam ...stock for stock i beat them all day long unless its the SS...but if they took that supercharger off ill whip them 2
