ok my motor swap went well till i go a bogging problem. Well i got that fixed. Then now when i start the car after setting for awhile it will idle fine for about 30secs to a min unless i give it gas then it starts bogging down right away. Ussually if i give it gas it will shut off while it is bogging.
If i don't give it any gas it will almost die then rev up to about 1500rpms then idle back down and be fine. Also my fan comes on and stays on when i start the car now since that problem started. It has a new o2 sensor but i do have a exhaust leak at the manifold. Waiting on my header.
But doen't explain why my fan is on all the time now. i am throwing a code for my knock sensor and egr but other than that there is none. Also when i installed my ho manifold and used the 2.3 sensors and it still does it. kind of driving me crazy. Any help at all would be a life saver.
I had this happen to me and it sounds stupid but is most likely your coolant temperature sensor, or the realay for the fan. I would start with the fan relay, if its bad/missing the default is to rev at about 1500 for about 10-15seconds, then bog down to normal idle and trip the fan. The fan wont stop till the engine is turned off. This is a safety feature and can be really annoying, It will also cause you to over cool the engine!
when i start the car it is fine then about 30 sec's later with out doing anything the idle will drop to like 200 or 300rpms to the point it trys to shut off. It has stalled about 6 times now on me. If i start it back up it's fine. Also when i did the 2.4 swap i was getting around 25mpg hard driving which has been about a month. Right now i'm getting between 16 to 19 driving like a grandma.
I did the fuel filter before i did the swap and the plugs after driving it for about a week. I've changed the o2 sensor also because i though my wideband was acting up because it would read 22.1 for a good 5 mins and then finally read right. But didn't help. The car is still bogging at any rpm if you hold it a certain rpm for about a min then give it gas. It bogs for about 10 sec's then moreless feels like i hit a nitrous button in which it gets all of it's power and takes off.
I'm throwing codes for no egr but other than that there is none. The temp senor was replaced by the previous owner i got the motor from like 2000miles before he totaled the car. Even though at idle i could have swore when the temp gauge was half way the scanner said 206c. But wouldn't i get a code for the temp senor? I also hooked it up to my buddy's scanner and watched the live feed. And at idle everything was fine, coolant temp, timing was like 30degrees advanced or something close to that(can't remeber was last week), vaccum, fuel trims. o2 sensor, and all that.
But when i gave it just a little gas i'm pretty sure my timing was retarding down to like 10 degrees or something around that. I know it was dropping. What would cause that to happen if anyone knows? I'm kind of thinking the fuel pump is about to die because since 100,000 miles or so on the stock pump the gas gauge quit working now the pump has 137,000 on it. Going to test the pressure today
I need some help with it if someone can. I'm going to put my header on this afternoon then go and ge my exhaust all redone in 2 1/2 mandrel bent. So i'll be able to trouble shoot some today. But need it fixed so i can start working on the procharger setup i plan on doing. Thanks for your help
Sounds like a O2 sensor issue (I know you said you replaced it), it could be your exhaust leak causing the issue. What you have describe it sounds like when the car switches to closed loop the O2 sensor is not warm enough and not giving a good readings and the car acts up for a few seconds. many 2.4 owners have had this (usually after header install). The fan coming on is probably the EGR code. Fan will come on after certain codes are thrown.
FU Tuning
ok i was thinking it was o2 still too. because i just installed my pacesetter header and was worse. Also i remeber hearing about they really don't like anything but ac delco o2's and i put a bosch in it. Any way since i installed the header and 2.5 exhuast i think i'm just going to wire up a heated o2 and see how it acts then. John would happen to know why i pulling alot of timing when i give the slightest bit of throttle?
O and also i know you tuned your car do you happen to know anyone with hp tuners around wv that would be willing to turn my egr codes off and tune it na for now? Goning to be doing the cam swap soon, plus i already got the header,2.5 exhuast, 2.2 coil swap, ho manifold, 2.3 throttlebody, and used intercooler piping to fab up a front bumper cold air intake.
