well i have a 1997 cavalier z24 and it runs awsome but people have been tellin me tons of different things so, what can go wrong with this motor and what should i watch out for thanks
just make sure to change the oil regularly and check it before changes a few times to make sure it doesnt get low.
most 2.4's either use a little or leak a little so just be aware of that.
biggest issues with the 2.4 ...
water pump(gonna go out eventually)
coil packs
coil pack housing
#3 main bearing
Being that it is a 97 water pump could be a issue (if it has not been replaced already). Usually around 45-50k they start leaking. Next is people usually run them low on oil and rev them out, spinning a rod bearing.
FU Tuning
WATER PUMP!!!!! you midas well replace it now! its in the worst f'in spot though. under the exst mnfld. mount needs to come of, timing cover and chain, and probobly your manifold, unless your hands are as big as a 2 yr olds. just do it now and get it over with. make sure you mark the timing sprockets too.
