porting 2200 intake manifold?

is it possible to port the stock plastic intake mani fold on the 2200? or is there any way to get the air to flow better through it with out adding a larger TB? i have been wondering about this for sometime dont think its possible but i guess its worth asking just in case

Im not sure if the runners match the head at all (stock at least), lol and im not sure how to check it, but you might be able to make those larger. The throat below the TB can be made larger as well. a larger tb id think would be nessecary to notice anything at all however.

I have a ported/polished head. I opened the runners up, matching them to the head. I also opened the throat of the IM, making it larger to support my 56mm HO TB. Seemed to have a little more throttle response, and it has a tid bit more on the high end.

Im not sure if the gain will be worth it on a stock head, but every little bit helps.

yea i figured as much with the TB, but wasnt sure how the plastic manifold would hold up to being ported, what would i need to use on it so it dont melt in the process? and are there any larger TB's that fit the 2200 without alot of modding?

The TB off 2.3 motors is 56mm, which is larger than stock. Not by much, but still larger. Theres a guy, event, on this site that made a tutorial on how to get the tb to fit on the 2200, its an easy swap. If you dont want to move te throttlewheel, the first time i did it, i just re-drilled a hole in the wheel to move the end of the t-cable. Youll see what I mean if you get one.... I may have one laying around if youre interested. PM me if you are.

I used a dremel and a metal bit. Model number DRE196 on This page.

Then i used a polishing wheel (i think thats what its called) it was like a scotch-brite pad in wheel form, there were 2 grades, a course and a fine, i ran the cutting bit, then the course wheel, then the fine wheel. I learned fast not to press too hard, as it starts to burn/melt. But if you either press lightly and take youre time, OR get a variable speed dremel (more expensive) you should be fine.
