advancing and retarding camshafts

Has anyone done this? what was the performance/sound differance.

it seems kind of generic to me, just the idea of it but ya never know.

This isnt a random performance mod that you can do. There needs to be a reason to advance/retard timing. i.e. boost or high compression.
if you want a different sound get a fart can.

Generally advancing the cams a few degrees will add a little more low end torque at the expense of top end power. Retarding the cams a few degrees does the opposite, adds a little top end power at the expense of low end torque.

so retarding them on an n/a motor would be better for 1/4 mile times?

what about adjusting them indevidually?

Listen F***ers. FASTERTHANAHONDA is a joke because I WORK FOR HONDA. I'll talk @!#$ about Fords to, that doesn't mean I can beat a 12 second mustang.

until you start biulding seriouse power, I don't advise sacraficing torq.

and unless you have a dyno at your disposal I really wouldn't bother with advancing or retarding the cam unless you have an aftermarket cam and the company tells you to

hey chris, do u know if the 2.3 and 2.4 cam sprockets are the same, as in can the rocket parts sprockets be used on the 2.4 if the 2.3 and 2.4 are not the same, is there enough adjustibility in them to make them usable. if u can answer those questions i may have more... not really planning on buying the sprokets just would like to know if it would work

For some time I had LD9 cam gears and crank gear on my GTZ. 30 miles latter the LD9 timing chain thought it didn’t like the LG0 water pump gear., 10 of the valves then wanted, and did, meet the pistons.

And that’s turning a frown upside down.

If you converted all the gears to the 2.3 set up, yes, but i would just make my own, its not to hard.

Find a old RP book, lots of good stuff in there, makes the stuff out for EcoTec (read EconOtec) look lame.

I meant to say +2 -2 gears OR the +4-4 gears****

No,no ,no. if you want to know how to make REAL power, ask the 2200 guy, he's all over PJ's Post about the "no good" 2.4 HO intake....

Ben know's NOthing!

for the LD9, my recommendation would be to just adjust the intake - 1 or 2 retarded, and -4 or 6 degrees exhaust. This will hurt bottom end a little bit, but it will provide some much needed drop on the intake and exhaust mach numbers, to give room for higher RPM power.

With the venom manifold, or a manifold like SPyhunter has ( just less on the plenum volume ) you should feel a nice kick in the pants top end.

Oh, and P.S. good exhaust manifold is important on the 2.4 because the head flows poorly exhaust side.

Well what "secrets" do i have?

I let her loose in Wisconsin with the 8.9 pistons, 13.67 @ 100

I let her loose in Ohio with the 12.5 pistons and new Hoosiers 13.85 @ 101

Heres the kicker :

1. I let her loose in Michgan with 12.5 pistons and FACTORY rubber 13.44 @ 104
2. I get great rates on the Mustang Dyno
3. Cam timing still set to 0 on Intake and Exaust
4. Cooler weather yet to come

You were there in Ohio checkin out the car, $$$ spend is the secreat i guess
