exhaust questions

ok, i have searched and found answers close but not dead on what i am asking. other than changing out the muffler because i like how it sounds in lower rpm, how can i get rid of the raspy sound that only occurs around 3k - 4k rpm? i still have what appears to be the stock resonator and cat, but the muffler thats on it now was free and i really dont know what kind it is because it has no markings but i believe it is rather cheap. would puttinng a resonator on it change the raspy sound without changing the low sounds or what are my other options? thanks again for any help.

From what it sounds like you have only replaced the muffler on your car. The rest is stock pipes, cat and headers. If that is true the the best way to get rid of the raspy is to buy a better muffler. I know thats not what you want to do but it will probably fix it. I went with a no-name cheap muffler for my first one, i loved it part of the time and hated it the rest. I got a new and better quality muffler and it is a lot better.

The only other thing i would suggest is taking out the factory resonator and putting in a longer aftermarket one. If you do this i would suggest going ahead and getting bigger pipes and going with a high flow cat at the same time. Maybe throw in some headers from the group buy and do the whole exhaust.

I just noticed your profile says you have a Cherrybomb Turbo II, that is a resonator, but your post says you have stock parts up there. What am i missing?

cherry bomb is what i believe it to be but its hard to tell when raptors and a bunch of others are just as cheap. i got it from a friends car he just bought and it looks like those kind because i have had them before but they didnt sound anything like this. but it is shaped like a muffler. so i guess scrap it all the way to the cat and put in a cat back like the one in gp forum or is the cherrybomb able to move around and a real muffler in its place?

I say if it is a Cherrybomb then move it to the proper place and do a cat-back.
