whats up guys i am a new memeber i have a 98 cav with a 2200 i have a few mods cold air intake header muffler 10.2 plug wires koni adjustable suspension front and rear strut tower bars shaved door handles and a few other interior mods but my question is this which motor is better as far as getting most hp out of is it worth the time 2 put in 2.2 or just rebuild 2200 planning on turbo upgrade and in a few weeks getting the hp tuner program i am in the process of painting car it is my school project any help would be awesome will get some pics posted soon
If you are talking 2.2 ECOTEC then I would say you are better off with that. But if you are talking about comparing both LN2 motors just stick with what you have. Not sure what your final goals are with the car, but I wish you luck with it. Every motor has potential just takes time, effort, and money. You'll see more support though with the ECOTEC motor.
If you build up the 2200 it can handle the power. You will need to build up the bottom end after 200hp though to be safe. The ecotec can be stock until 250whp.
You can swap the ecotec, build up the motor for 300whp. Or you can completely build up the 2200 for 300whp. and the amount of money spent will be roughly the same. its all up to you bro.

I'm pretty sure the bottom end is ok past 200......

Lee (BoostedCavi) has a 2200 doing 231whp + daily ! The problem is if you have a lead foot.. any motor will not take to well.

^^true dat. thats why i plan on nitrousing mine to get around 210 hp. then buy a spare a build for boost. cause theres plenty of these engines out there. parts are cheap and so are th engines themselves.
my friend blew his 2.4 2 months after he got it (shotty dealer) and called around for the price of a 2.4. he found one miles away, and they wanted 1200 + core charge. so i told him to check out a 2.2 . hes now getting a 97 2.2 and swapped in all together for 800 bucks. cant beat that.

The biggest advantage the 2200 version has over the older LN2 is that it uses top-feed injectors and a conventional fuel rail. Another is that the manifold will accept aftermarket throttelbodies where the older TB/plenum assemblies must be bored and fitted with a custom throttle plate. Other than that they're pretty equal.
