H/O intake manifold.. high idle
Tuesday, July 11, 2006 8:14 PM
I have a 2002 z24(using the 2.4L throttle body)... just installed the h/o intake manifold and the idle sucks. After start-up, it flutters up and down for a few seconds, then rises by itself to about 3000rpm and just stays there. All vacuum lines and sensors are connected and/or plugged.
I am not using the adapter flange for the manifold. Any suggestions of where or how to check for leaks causing this high idle?

Looking for other answers besides just saying "buy the flange"

More than likely have a vaccum leak somewhere.....get a mechanics scope, take the plunger off the end, and move it around the flange, you will hear the leak very distinctively.

Where abouts in MD are you?
Maybe I can swing by and have a look.
Bring down a 2.3L tb and check things out.

Meantime, it soulnd like a leak like FstCavy said.
Either at the tb, or the head not making good contact.

Did you port the manifold any?

If you're sure the vac lines are all good, I bet it is the flange as well. Maybe just try backing out the bolts and then re-tightening in sequence again.

To: Mastin & SuperPyrofreek

I doubled up on the gaskets and its now idling at around 1700 give or take. Not so much of a fluter but wasnt really moving much just a idle. Sounded much better than last night couldnt hear any give away leaks. Also made a larger gasket for the t/b so I doubt there is any leaking from there. I was going to try to drive it down the street to see if the idle changed at all but im blocked in by some HVAC trucks. If either want you can AIM:skateproject1 or write me back on here with anything else? Thanks guys big help

Yup,
I had to double up on mine before it would run right.

Good deal.
