Performance Loss....
Wednesday, July 05, 2006 5:13 AM
Ok, I installed a ported 95 2.3l LO manifold, a 95 2.3 TB (56mm), and the 2.3-2.4 adapter flange. I was at the track this weekend and I ran 6-7 tenths slower in the 1/4 mile. This was the only change done to the car. I normally run 15.55 @ 88mph all day every day. My 60' times were close to normal 2.2..s and 2.1..s. My 1/8 times were very close within 1 tenth, but at the top of the track I guess it died. 83-84 was my fastest trap. and between 16.2 and 16.3. Hell I ran that slow almost stock. Am I missing something or does the car not like the intake manifold. Also I have no cel or any codes at all.

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
I think I am just going to take it off and put a stock on back on.

Of course you know lots of things can cause a difference in times, but your MPH seems very weak. I have never seen any dyno proof that the 2.3 manifold is better than stock (one reason I have never done it). YOu can always put it back stock and go back to the track. I knwo some will say different day different conditions so not a good way, but 6-7 tenths is a lot to lose, and 4 MPH. MPH is power so with a loss of MPH power is off. I can have a bad day at the track, but still have my MPH.

Exactly John, but with the mph loss and 1/4 mile being that far off. It must be the manifold. I was thinking of dynoing it with it installed to see exactly the difference, but I think I just call it a loss.

I once read awhile back of some one putting the 2.3 manifold and TB on and taking it off again not to long after... Im curious, what were your 60ft times both before and after the swap?

About the exact same before and after.

you lose power because you've installed a Lo manifold! you should intall the HO manifold on you 2.4!! On my last engine, I have put a 2.3 ho manifold, and I have seen a lot of gain in sound and more power at 4000 rpm + than before! try this ! the LO is too small

and did you reset your cars comp?

Lo intake and TB was free so I said what the hell why not, and yes I reset my computer. Thats one of the first things I did.

yea u def need the 2.3 HO...

with the ho mine ran pretty much the same times

only other thing would be weather conditions , i know mine and the g/fs car both suffer in hot weather

I honestly think that the 2.4's is probably just as good if not better than the 2.3's. Its plastic for starters, thus less heatsoak as opposed to the 2.3's (aluminum?) one. The 2.4's also have equal length runners, great for low end torque (why people take the torque making elements out of the car is beyond me too), and does pretty good up to with a 56mm TB.

Wasnt there dyno proof a while back...someone dynoed a LO mani, and it was a 10hp gain, and 0 torque gain/loss??????

There was a post that he claimed he got it dynoed but never showed any proof.

All the years I have been on the ORG (since it started), never seen any proof. I can only think of one time proff showed the secret cams to add power. No one with J's ever dyno before and after mds. Even myself. I do not have a dyno plot of my car stock, but slightly modded. Hopefully soon it will seen the dyno again.

on July 15th Twisted Motorsports will be doing a manifold swap at the track to compair the stock intake/throttlebody to the HO with a 56mm throttlebody.

however i have the flange welded on this manifold and its been hogged out abit (bought it that way) and the cars cyl. head is not matched to the intake. Why anyone would hawg out the intake ports that much is beyond me, the 2.4L's head has MASSIVE intake ports already and only need abit of "work" to make them shine!

we will keep everyone updated on what happens!

i also think i lost power with the lo manifold but it was not port matched when i had that on there so i put the ho manifold on with port matched flange and it ran a lil faster

How long was the manifold on before you hit the track.

You kinda wanna go through a full or close to driving cylce a couple times before the computer realized it has the different manifold in there.

I noticed this when I was just messing around with throttle bodies.
Then came across something about driving cylces ina manual somewhere, did it, and got the performance gain quicker that way.

Also,
Those flanges do add length to the runners, so that's a factor across a couple 100 rpms in the powerband.
Do you have the cam swap action too?

Lastly, (inside joking a little)
Couldn't hurt to get some lightened pulleys.
I mean geez man there's the gp going on, get in on it......

You'll work it out.
Have fun,

Yeah drove it around for about two weeks, beat on it hear and there through out the two weeks. Sounds wonderful, but I can not LIVE with the 1/4 loss.

I saw awhile back some one that claimed to have a before and after dyno done and though there was a pretty high hp gain there was a decent amount of torque lost as well. I dont remember if there was a dyno sheet to back this up but it makes sence.

Also you have to realise our cams and intake are made to match each others specs.

That's pretty cool that you're going to try that at the track Justin.

About your manifold, it's hogged out that big because it was port matched to an Induction Dynamics race head, on a engine built to rev to 8,000rpm, and spray direct port nitrous, not a mild setup lol.

15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?
