I was just wondering if there were any mods I could do to the stock air box of my 2.4 to make it sound and perform better, I don't want to spend any money, so are there any baffels and such I can remove or anything like that? thanks for the help
98 cavy LS 4 door, with Z24 motor swap, performance chip, soon to have slight intake modifications and an exhaust cut-out.
i think there is a a funnel shaped thing you can take out. search on here and you'll find out what i mean.
Take off the S shaped tube or whatever, reach inside and pull out this little black tube with a small flange. Your likely to get 1/4 hp
Well, find a friend with an old cone filter that you can have. Clean it up. Remove the Air box and just connect the filter to the end of the flexable rubber pipe. Its not perfect, but its better then stock.
I have the cheap cone filter sitting in my garage. I'll send it to you if you want it. All you need to attach it to the stock hose is a short piece of 3" exhaust pipe. Costs like $2 at any parts store.
you can remove the tuner tube and "bong". that will net you about 2 hp. if you are lucky.
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

yes make the bong go byebye, or you could paint it green, cut off the top and use it for a planter
another thing you could do is if you have a die grinder or a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel and cut out the bottom of the lower portion of the box. it will def sound louder and I belive you will get a gain but no timeslips to prove. just seat of pants
even if the increase on carving out the box is all placebo its still a fun way to tool around on your car for about 15min.
