Exhaust Advice - 2.5" Crush Bent
Monday, May 08, 2006 8:20 PM
Well, the time has come to have the exhaust redone on my car. The supercharger just doesn't seem to be doing much of anything on the stock exhaust. I am looking to go 2.5" crush bent from header back. There aren't any shops around here that do mandrel bending. So my question is, will 2.5" crush bent be adequete? Just wondering how much of a difference/restriction the crush bends make.

Also, I have the RK Sport 4-1 ceramic coated header that I will be putting on. Only bad thing I noticed about it is that the o2 sensor bung is located on one of the runners. Would it be better to have it moved to the collector area? Or is it not worth the time and expense...

Last but not least, any recommendations on a muffler and resonator? I want it to sound quiet. I'm sick of getting pulled over. Alot of people have said to go with a 42" resonator. What brands would you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance!

its not that crush isnt good at all, its just that mandrel is better, lol... its not like a HUGE difference crush will be fine, but a slight bit more restrictive than mandrel. resonator= ANYTHING PERFORATED... theyre all basically designed the same way outta the same stuff, so the cheapest largest perforated resonator you can find and thatll be good... typically anything from here will be ur best bet. just make sure it says at the bottom of the product page that its perforated.

good luck with the charger dude, it should be pretty sweet with a full exhaust.

Jon - Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. Do you have any idea what the biggest resonator is that you can fit on the cavy assuming I remove the cat? And what kind of muffler would you suggest?

the cat also helps with noise , and keeps you legal

also use a longer case muffler , and try to keep the tip length long also

Don't get crush... to my knowledge crush is where they pinch the pipe... you might be thinking of compression bends... they keep the smooth inner wall of the pipe but do deform it somewhat... It will flow much better than a crush piping... though not as good as Mandrel... IMO

Knowledge about everything and yet an expert of nothing!!
Jack of all trades.

97cav - I'm not too concerned running catless since I'm from WI. They don't do checks unless you get pulled over for loud exhaust. That's why I want to go with a quiet sounding exhaust. Any muffler in particular that you would recommend that is quiet but keeps performance in mind?

Silver - I can't remember now if the guy at the exhaust shop said they did crush or compression...I though it was crush. He said it doesn't make the pipe that much smaller. I'd love to do mandrel, but its soooo expensive.

anything that is straight through , and case length atleast 18"

i mentioned the cat more cause of noise , and with the right cat no check engine light to deal with , but either way its money spent for a cat , or a way to keep the code from poping up

the magnaflow muffler on mine is 14" and the 1's with the 18" are better sounding

not sure im really sold on them , lol

borla's are pretty good also
