best swap?

Hey guys... I don't check out the forums a whole due to my hectic schedule, but I know over the years I have read a few posts from time to time. I currently own a 99 with the 3-speed 2200 series motor. I think I have decided that I want to go turbo, but looking to do a motor swap. The only thing I know is I want to convert over to a 5-speed and not sure what motor to put in. What would be the best build-up? The new Ecotec or the 2.4 out of the old z's? I have been doin some searching to see what parts you can get for either motor and they seem pretty even. My only concern is the wiring. Building a motor is somewhat easy, but the electronics part confuse me like no other. So what would be the best motor? Any comments and concern are welcome. Just kinda at a stand still. Thanks guys

Maybe this would be better in the Boost forum....but...if it were me, I would go Ecotec.

Neither are best but, since you have a 99 the 2.4L should be easier.

Ok... so I go out and get a 2.4 out of a Z. What 5-speed tranny bolts up to this motor? I'm a moron when it comes to electronics so I will need some help in this area. What ecu would work if I wanted to go turbo with this application?

if you want to do a 2.4 swap, go for the 00 or newer, they have the better tranny. Personally i think your best bet would be to get a 5 speed donor car, and just swap everything over; the motor, tranny, and the ecu. as for the turbo, look in the boost forum, but i think that the HP tuners software will be a good friend of yours.

Ill make a sig someday

So what is really the big deal in swapping a 2.2 for a 2.4. Besides a 2.4 making mearly 30 more HP and it is a DOHC. Couldn't you make the same amount of power with a 2.2? Granted with the right amount of money... you can do anything. Does anyone know of people that has a 2.2 powerplant that I could ask questions?? I'm just trying to throw all of my options out there and see what people say.

the point of having the 2.4 is to have more power stock to boost with ...know what i mean?
of course you could always swap in a 2.3 w41 and have60-70 more hp to begin with then boost it but to be completly honest with you if your car is an automatic with the 2.2 and your wanting to spend all the money on a new engine, tranny, and everything you need to change auto to manual youd be better off just BUYING the manual car..seriously
but if you insist on it your best bet is as mentioned..get a donor car

Thanks for the comments guys... I would just buy a new car, but I already have mine custom painted and my whole interior is pretty much custom. My side skirts or molded on and door handles and all key holes are shaved. I wouldn't want to waste all of the work I have already done. Thanks, keep the comments coming.

What you could do is buy yourself a honda and swap a type R or H22A motor into say a honda hatch and smoke even a turbo Jbody lol!! just kidding everyone id just buy yourself a 2.4 send it in to get forged pistons and rods or get the 8.9-1 pistons they sell i think at Jbodystore.com or something like that then get your head ported and polished with 3 angle valve job buy your turbo get your computer tapped or get a management system of some sort get a good clutch and fly weel do all the bolt ons minus headers and slap the turbo on it at 8 psi you should touch about 280hp!!

Thanks for the few comments guys. I think I'm gonna stick with the 2200 motor and make it sick as possible with some all forged components with a turbo. That means its gonna be a long build-up. I'll keep you updated. Hopefully I can figure out how to post some pics and I'll post a few as I move along!

Thanks
