Well after a couple of weeks of working on the car on and off, the motor is finally ready to be pulled out. But my question to the many people out there that have done this, which is the best way to pull the quad motors out; with the tranny attached together with the motor, or leave the tranyy inside the car? The Chiltons manual suggests to have the motor and trany come out the bottom witht he under carrage as one, but I don't have a lift to do this???? Need some help here guys, the motor is so close to being pulled. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Time to get it going again.....

You dont need a lift.
Put your car up on jack stands, And have your floor jack under the engine supporting it. As you remove everyting that holds it in place, you can lower it out from under your car, and roll it to where ever you like it.

I never had any problems.
You can use an engine crane and take it out through the top.... much easier to do if the hood has been removed. We took out PJ's 2200 and installed his Eco this way with very little issue getting it in and out (just be sure to take the trans mounts off of BOTH the engine and the frame, as they will cause a snag if leave them attached to either). The only really tricky part is getting it past the battery tray. Make sure to hook up the crane biased to the front of the engine so it will lift out the engine/trans diagonally with trans side tilted down.
I don't know many people who have jack stands high enough to clear an engine/trans, and i know a lot fewer who'd be comfortable rolling an engine around on a regular old floor jack... especially on a rough or pitted floor lol.

We did mine by getting everything off except the main bolts then we hooked it to cherry picker, put a crate with wheels on it under it (basically a rolling dolly), then took out the main bolts and lowered it on to the crate thing with the engine, tranny, axels, and such.

I have to say it....you are so full of
Diesell, Its very easy to remove the engine from the top, Much easier IMO. But it realy all depends on the tools you have. I had a cherry picker so its a life saver
i replaced a quad this week in my garage, pulled the engine left the tranny. do you have an engine hoist? it was a very straight foward job with one..
Too bad you cant remove the Engine out of a Manual without removing the trans. The input shaft is too long. Only Autos can be done like that. sorry to busrt your bubble. And never try rolling your engine on a jackstand, you just asking for trouble that way.
so if you got a manual you cant take the engine out from the top.

This is incorrect. I have done this. Sorry you did not know what you were doing or did not have the correct tools. This can be done. The stock tranny mounts have lots of flex in them.
Also going out the top works really well, do not even need to remove the hood.
so you can remove the engine out the top with out the trans.
i have done both...first time was out the bottom when i swaped the engine and tranny at the same time...but if your just doing the engine alone go out the top..take the hood off to get it outta your way
I have done my car 3 times, and it is easiest to just take out the motor and trans as one peice out the top. Makes life alot easier

You can pull your engine and trans out together from the top with a cherry picker. I have done it before with my 2.0 sunbird. My old 2.3 quad 4 in the cav was a little different. The engine fit out the top alone but I don't think there was enough room to pull it out with the tranny unless you took out the brake booster and such. I never tried removing it all as one. I would try unbolting everything and then lifting the car away from the engine with a cherry picker.

I own a local service shop and all the 2.4 engines I have done it both ways. I'm not sure which is easier. One seems just as much work as the other.
Best time so far is 15.7. RKSport Cold Air Intake, Custom
2.5 catback, B&M Short Throw Shifter

I would agree it is easier to take them out together.
me and my buddys always dropped the engine from below.
drop the subframe, undo the wiring and what not and lower the engine out.
i think our best time getting the motor out or the car is like 3 hours including clean up.
Took mine out the top WITHOUT the tranny lol. Its a manual btw. Was a pain in the ass tho if i have to do it again ill take it out as one piece.

no he's not. Ive done it. You just need a few extra hands to stabilize everything.
so the engine will be able to come out without the tranny and it should clear.
Thanks to everyone. BTW I have the isuzu 5 speed. I was under the car yesterday afternoon and noticed that I only had about 1.5 - 2.0" of clearance between the transmission and the subframe brace. I think that if I pull the motor and trans together, I will have to drop it down first to the ground and then angle the motor and trans and then pull it out so that the trans will clear. What do you guys think?
Time to get it going again.....
Just drop the motor and trans out through the bottom.Thats how i did mine, and it was a piece of cake.Once you get the subframe out,you have plenty of room to take the motor/trany out. When i did mine,i removed the intake manifold to give my self alittle extra room.
