Engine Rebuild. (block/head)
Saturday, February 11, 2006 9:53 AM
Good Day everyone.
I currently own a 98' Z24 Cavalier Convertiable, Have owned since July 05'.
Been planning on intenal modifications for some time now, But figured its best to start with rebuilding this models small block for future upgrades and performance modifications.
Was hoping to get some advise from the forum regarding compression ratio, and bore etc. By finding limited information though (But didnt dig to deep)
Found this 2.4 engine has 9.4:1 Compression ratio, Displacement (cc) 2429 , Bore X Stroke (in.) 3.44 X 3.98.

So with all that said and done, Looking for a rebuild kit that can run for my naturally aspirated and for every day driving, but ready for a forced induction application.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Once again thankyou for your help

Thanks
and Happy Tuning

well your info is wrong.

96-99 2.4 had 9.5:1 compression and 00-02 had 9.7:1 compression.

the bore is 3.54" and the stroke is 3.70"

CC for the head is 61.

There is no "rebuild kit".

Searh in this forum and in the boost forum and you'll find all the answers in the world.

Go to any of the jbody vendors and get a set of Eagle 4340 forged H beam rods approx $325 - $350 a set, Weisco .020 over forged pistons & rings approx $465 - $520, then go to jbodyperformance.com and get one of the lightened & knife edged cranks with Clevite H rod & main bearings, finally get ARP head & main studs and your bottom end should be bullet proof. This is the setup I'm build piece by piece for my turbo motor in the next year or two.

2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.

Yeah I wasn't sure for the 99 Brian. It was a strange year for the J body.
