SAFC Troubles -- need help quick
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 8:54 PM
I'm installing an SAFC on an 04 cavi for a friend, ECOTEC, etc.

i have it mostly wired up, with two kinks....

1. it stays on all the time
2. RPMS don't read

i used this wiring diagram

http://www.ny-jbodies.org/library/engine/ecotec/PCMwires.asp

my wiring
SAFC PCM
brown/black black & white (73)
red orange (20)
green pink (19)
yellow/white lt green (29)
grey dk blue (31)

my assumption is that i shouldn't have done the red to B+ source, but where do i pull the RPMS from then?

thanx a ton, tony

The red one, did you connect that to pin 20 on connector 1, or connector 2?

The green wire is wrong, you have that wired to the positve voltage on the coil pack.

How do you have the yellow and white wires hooked up? It should go from the yellow wire into the PCM, and the white wire should go to the sensor.

Try connecting the red one to connector 1, pin 19 (Pink)

awesome, the white and yellow are hooked up, i'm actually out to eat right now, yellow is PCM side though. which wire is voltage on the coilpack?

what would cause the car not to start though?

everything but the RPMs were reading correctly though.
i had this installed on my saturn sc2 for a while, but with the standalone, it's just a fancy display for me now.

What is the last wire color you're trying to hook up?

white wire coming from the ignition module is the wire to tap for tach output. its a "1/2" signal though. If you just tap it it reads 1/2 the actual RPM so you need to set it to 2cylinder mode to read right
