every shop i called around my area only does crush bends, ive heard alot that you cant have crushed bends when u put on a resonator. is this true?
dont even do your exhaust if your gonna do crush bends
you CANT have crush bends when you put on a resonator????
who in the F you see kay told you that?!
while its not the greatest thing by far, it doesnt magically make it where you CANT run a resonator? whoever said you CANT, find em, and hit em.... hard. kick em even. morons deserve random jump starts.....
compression bends are cool. most shops do this, instead of a perfect circle you will have an oval, hence the word compress.... pretty much the same space, different shape.
crush bends will have ridges in pipes like what you see at pep boys...
chrush bends will hurt your performance
crush bends = a big exhaust no no
That's all I gotta say...

I have never heard that nor do I know why they would say that. Go somewhere else.

crush bends are the least liked of everything out there, that being said, if its al thats available you can always buy pre bent pipe either compression bent or mandrel from the net and just have them weld it all up somehow.
There is no reason you couldnt put in a resonator with those bends tho

Cheapest for the best gains is compression bends, which are what MOST exhaust shops use because exhaust shops that do crush bends are just a waste. IMO... mandrel is a waste of money.

call around... large and small shops....
i;ve known plenty of people from philly with exhausts and i know they didnt pay much more than 200$
You can buy a premade exhaust, if you can't get compression for a good price. Shop around, that price is crazy!
Not to threadjack or anything, but when I got my exhaust custom bent they didn't use compression and they didn't use mandrel. Of that, i'm sure. But where they bent the pipe it doesn't have little ridges like the crushed...? It's hard to explain. but it definatly ISN'T 98% round or whatever. Should I replace the bends?
Any help would be appreciated!

is it oval'd in the center point of the bend?

I asked a guy at a muffler shop weather it was worth getting a custom made mandrell bent exhaust and he said no....unless you are running a turbo / SC....he said you wont get any benefit out of it ....and that crush bent it fine.
**this is the guy trying to make money off me.....and he says get the cheaper one (he drives an 04 STI btw)

I'll take a picture of it... No it's not an oval. It is round, but it looks like someone hit it with a dull axe. like I said, it's hard to explain . I'll get a pic.

Crush bends for a "performance" exhaust are NEVER ok. Compression bends are by far the most cost-effective. You will pay more than what it worth for the very minimal gains with mandrel bends.

if it doesnt have ridges,
and its not a complete circle...
its compression.....simply maybe a bad job, but compression.
unless you are putting down a crap load of power, you really arent gonna gain anything, but maybe cool points with certain cliques who feel they are elitists...
/\ /\ /\ /\ Is right mandrel bent is nice if you've got it like that $$$$$$$ compression bent is what most shops do. If you want to see a crush bend go to Pep Boys or Advance auto and if they have pre-formed exhuast parts look at how the benda are, the best way to describe them is they look like a ruffle potato chip on the inside of the bend.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
