what would this affect?

I was turboed so the spark plugs are NGK TR6 2 step colder plugs, now I'm stock, does the 2 step colder plugs effect any performance or gas mileage at all? I do not understand the spark plugs, I just know I need it colder for a turbo since the heat of air is warmer.

I believe in stock form, your stock plugs or same temp plugs are best in performance. You could always go with some Iridium plugs and see if that helps.

tr6 is only one step colder.

You have a larger chance of the colder spark plugs to foul out. Maybe worse gas mileage and performance.

Plug temperature determines how well the plug can clean itself.
Too hot and it will melt material (contamination) that comes in contact with the insulator and weld it to it. As a side effect, the plug can also get hot enough to light the fuel without a spark, which is why colder plugs are recommended for forced induction.
way too hot plugs can actually melt themselves.

If a plug is too cold, it will not be able to burn off the same material (contamination) before it begins collect more. eventually anough will build up to foul the plug.

Plug temperature has little to no effect on performance/mileage....... until a plug fouls, then it gets worse.
A plug that is a step or 2 colder wont really foul out much easier than stock unless they are used in really cold climates.

I guess I'll swap them out since I've never ran them through a winter yet, before I give my $$$ out, I would rather spend $.

yea... i think i'm fouling plugs as well. Take a glance at my reg and tell me what plugs are best for winter season in my car. I know a lotta @!#$ but not a lot about spark plugs.

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

the TR6 from NGK is good for boost, I had mine boosted for 3 years and not a single problem. I guess for around 3 years, I should consider changing my plugs anyways. I'm gonna go get some NGK stock replacement today and install it tomorrow.

For Twin cams and 2200s TR6s are probably not ever going to be an issue. A TR6 is not really a heat range colder than stock, they are a heat range colder than the plugs NGK recommends for the stock engine, and TR55s seem to fall as slightly hotter than stock. So they are more like a half heat range. Since a TR55 and TR6 can both be cross referenced to the same plug in other lines. the difference is probably negligible. Even then, stock plugs are generally good in areas that see -30F temps and not many of us will ever see that.

For ECOs...... Even though its a popular idea on these forums, TR6s are not correct plugs for ECOs. The head on ECOs is designed for 1" (25mm) long (from seat to chamber) plugs. Older engines all used approx. 3/4" (Actually .708") plugs. TR6s are 3/4" plugs.
When used in an ECO they end up being recessed into the head about 1/4" leaving sharp threads exposed in the chamber. It also causes a small drop in compression ratio.
