Engine Swap?
Monday, October 03, 2005 7:12 PM
Well right now I have a 2200 with a cold air, header & exhaust, a few engine mods, and nitrous. The problem is I want more power and I'm thinkin it would be easier to just swap like a Acura 1.8 vtec engine it or something along those lines. What engine would go in my cavy the easiest and what would be needed to switch it over?

the easist would be another cavy engine

either the 2.2 eco
or the 2.4 twin cam

both willbe about the same as difficulty wise

I thought about that would I be able to use the same ecu and tranny for either?

Swapping an Honda motor into our cars is an obomination LOL

Just joking...

Your best bet would be to do Snowman said and swap in an 2.4 TC motor or an 2.2 ECOTEC motor, I personally would do the ECOTEC. You can find them relatively cheap and actually if you do any of those motors, you WILL need the Motor, Transmission, Wiring, Harnesses, Fuel System...basically everything under that engine bay. If you do want to do this, you would be better off buying a wrecked car with working parts from a junk yard or you can go to www.car-parts.com and search for parts.

Good luck on your decision.

the LD9 (2.4 TC) would be the easiest and you would get a lot more torque from that motor.

Id say go turbo! less work, i got mine installed in a weeked, and with a stock bottom end you can still run a good amount of boost. And if you dont think thats enough power in a 2200, i beat a SRT-4 the other day on 10 psi, with two passangers! ah the wonders of forced induction..

I thought about going turbo but I need something reliable, so I'm not sure on whether or not I want to do that

well if your serious about it you only have a few choices so it shouldnt be hard....
quad4
twin cam
ecotec
personally thats the only way to go performance wise..so just look at each and look where you wanna go with your car and decide..we cant decide for you cus we all like differnt ones

that's such a biased statement. i'll show you how the OHV can hold its own when my new motor is done.

Cost really has no bearing on motor worth. For example, you could spend $1500 on a stock motor plus boost, run 12 psi with a decent tune for a few months until the motor blows. OR do what I am doing and build the motor right the first time. It won't even be done until next July or August.

$/performance is in fact how i would rate it in this case..

the motor you choose should play big into your goals.. in fact your goals should be well in place before you pick which engine you wanna use to get there. first set a goal, then research what it takes to get there.. it may be cheaper/easier to swap and go from there, it may not.

I have the LN2 in my ride. Check out my profile for the list of mods. I would recommend adding a turbo, but that's what I've done to every LN2 I've worked on. I don't care what anyone says, it's a tough little motor and even though the LD9 has 30hp more stock than the LN2, it's more complicated to work on. Any twin cam will be. Plus, you can use parts made for small block Chevys and make them work, and in the long run, that engine is really reliable. I have 180K on the clock with mine and I eat Hondas for lunch. I also just finished getting the parts for the turbo. I'll let you know how it works.
