for every tenth of a second taken off a quarter mile time on an eco, what is the usual hp gain? i know there are variables but maybe someone knows. curious. ...

There's the good ol' general "rule of thumb" which is 100 pounds equals one tenth of a second in the quarter mile... but it's just a guideline, and there isn't really a linear equation for hp and quarter mile times.

Stock, an Eco runs mid to high 15's at sea level. Mod it, and it should get faster. There's the basics.

i was just curious, because ive heard people say that the shift improver i have takes .2-.3 seconds off of a quarter mile time and was curious as to how much that would have been if it were hp that was actually taking my time down.

The Interceptor isn't a power adder.. it doesn't add any hp. It makes the shifts faster, and harder.. how fast and hard depends on how you set it.

I had mine set to 100% line pressure and it took around 0.2 seconds off my quarter mile times, on average. Too many other variables going on at the track with my car at the time to be consistent though...

our cars generally on a 5spd 50 hp will get you roughly a sec in the 1/4 and like john said certain mods will only increase the effieciency of the motor and trans and/or free up lost hp but there is alot of other issues like traction, weather, etc. that can one person add 50 hp and gain a 1 sec and another adds 50 hp and only gains 1/2 a sec

i guess that answers my question a bit, yes i understand it doesnt create horsepower, but in a way its like the device makes horsepower at the flick of a switch. if you set it on stage II instead of stock, then that would be like a 20hp gain if you took off .2-.3 seconds according to what the one guy said.

Sure.. if you want to think about it that way.. but then you have no idea how automatic transmissions work.

go to www.howstuffworks.com and read about automatic transmissions and line pressure. Maybe it will make more sense.

It doesn't make any horsepower, and in no way should be factored into any hp equation. It simply increases the transmission fluid line pressure, therefore reducing the amount of time it takes to shift (automatically) between gears.
