I have the 96 2.2 motor and want to go boosted soon so will forged pistons and connecting rods drop right in?Or will I have to have a shop have the block modified?

That depends on whether you get the same sized forged pistons. I have been looking at forged for awhile and it really depends on the company. If they are oversized yes you will have to have the block bored out, otherwise if they are the stock size they will work with no boring. Keep in mind that forged internals are much different to use. Most clearances are tighter which means you SHOULD let your car warm up before being driven and let it idle awhile before shutting off. Just my 2 cents.

JBP can custom make you pistons, and Flatlander Racing will always make pistons as long as you know every measurement you need.

no piston will ever drop right in, NEVER put new pistons on a used block, always have the cylinders at least honed to get out all the wear marks, otherwise you'll chew thru a set of rings in half to a quarter of the time you would of got out of them, other than that yes they will drop right in, just match your bore size to your new pistons, the rings will fill the void made by honeing as it should be more than a few thousands of an inch they take off.
