Monday, May 30, 2005 4:38 AM
i went from a 2000 2.2 ohv 3 speed to 2002 ecotec 4 speed everything went smooth but a few things and here is a list of them any help would be apperiated
1 no guages work but the check engine light does ( o2 sensor not hooked up)
2 ignition seems to be backwards with the key 3/4 of the way in the stock cd player comes on and the lock in the shifter is disabled but when the key is turned all the way over the shifter is locked (kinda wierd)
other than that car runs great so far so thanks and any help would be great

i have a few quick questions for you. were the mounts for the 3 speed auto and 4 speed auto in the same places or did you have to weld in new transmission mounts? did you have to use the axles from the car with the 4 speed auto or did the 3 speed auto axles work just fine?

you need the 4 speed tranny mount and the tranny i had came with axles .check your local junk yard i got my whole package for $900 and i paid $350 to this good back yard garage type mechanic i know all in all it went well aside from the gauges not working

You need the actual 4t40e mount that is bolted to the transmission, but you don't need to make any modifications to bolt holes on the mount welded to the frame. So yes, no welding. I suggest you search this forum for 97ecotecRS's ecotec swap FAQ.

actually the mounts for the 3spd and 4spd are the same up to 02 , gm changed something in 03 cause the part # is different

the gauges are most likely because you missed a ground wire

That might be the problem, the BCM is under neath the dash, and controls a lot of things. You need to in the swap.

I think the BCM has a security code built in as well doesn't it?

yeah you do get a theft/security code which is easy removed by turning the key down and waiting for the light to blink not a big deal but i still get my cel and stuff its just the actuall spedo temp and gas gauge

You need the ecotec BCM. You are running off the 2.2 BCM. The theft lock is in the gauge cluster.

I havent been around too much been way busy. But I tried to use my 97 BCM with the ecotec and I might have forgotten to put that in the faq. I apologize. I couldnt use it at all. For some reason it wouldnt come out of theft or if it did I had fuel problems. That is after I switched all my fuel system from the old style to the 00+ I had to go buy a new one for an ecotec since the used ecotec one I accidentally broke.

He did not need to change fuel tanks etc... because he has a 2000+, but he needs the BCM.
