I've been searching through old threads looking for weights from the Mantapart and Cav Connection pulley kits. I know the RSM is over 16 ounces lighter (event/muffins), but can't find anythng on these (and apparently neither company answers their email). So if you have the info please put it up.
But now to the purpose of this post:
I noticed in quite a few threads about people getting aftermarket (stiffer) valve springs for their cars (sometimes they come with a cam, like jbodyperformance). One even complained that he didn't get much gain after $2000 in mods. IIRC, the one and only purpose of stiffer valve springs (disregarding possible weight loss) is to allow you to rev higher without running into valve float. Everyone seemed to be running the factory rev limiter that I saw. At these (stock) levels, the springs will only soak up useful torque (via the cam lobes) that you could be putting to the ground. So, in a way, it could be compared to putting a HEAVIER pulley on your crank, or turning on the AC.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't be using stiffer valve springs with the factory rev limiter. And of course, raising the limiter with a stock/mild cam will do you no good.
If I'm wrong please correct me/delete this post.
Oh yeah, anyone know the weights on the JBP chromoly retainers and/or locks?

well the stock springs are designed to only take so much lift
you put a after market cam with more lift , you run into a higher change of valve float at lower rpm than you would have with the stock cam on the stock springs at the same rpm limit
that make sense ?
not sure on the pulleys, from what i understand, the mantapart and other pulleys are smaller in size as well...
as for the valves.... the simple n/a rebuild i am doing, i retained the stock ones... if there is a need to change em later, i will, but i doubt it. machine shop checked the lift and how much was left at full valve extension....
however for those with forced induction or heavy n/a i am thinking this is where the upgraded springs would shine.... unless the springs are lighter than stock, then all may benefit.
And to add a little note, don't look for any help from Mantapart...they aren't...how do you say...customer oriented.

Yeah, I didn't even bother emailing them. I've gottem all my mantapart stuff through the JBO classifieds so far
Eric:
Are you talking about the coils binding?
