I just bought the engine out of a 2000 GTP with 82,000Km and a manual trans with 10,000Km from a 2000-2002 cavalier. I also got all brackets, mounts, wiring, pcm, etc. The questions I have for you are 1.) Do I need the fuel pump from the GTP? 2.) Is there anything else I should get from the car while I can? 3.) Can I run the enigine for now with maual trans without getting PCM reprogrammed? I just wanna get everything running and then I'll get it reprogrammed. 4.) What exactly has to be done to the harness? I now the bulkhead doesn't plug into the 2.2, Can I jus re-pin the 2.2 connector into the 3.8's or is there not enough pin spaces? 5.) Do you have the 3.8's wiring diagrams?
PCM MUST be reprogrammed because GTP`s have auto`s, therefore shift points and a couple other things must be removed.
Wiring is one of the, if not THE hardest part of the swap, yes you can repin, that is easiest, but take your time, I myself am paying Brad (who did James/Ravens) to do mine, makes my swap that much easier.
I thought the 3800 had the old bop trans bolt pattern ?!?!!?!?!?! that surely wont fit the 2.4 trans. what flywheel & clutch do you plan to use? i thought to do this swap you had to retain the factory auto from the gtp.

the 3800sc engine fits the 5 spd getrag tranny from 2000-2002 cavys

Well I answered your questions on MSN the other day but I will answer again here for everyone else.
1. You don't need the fuel pump, your stock pump will work fine.
2. Get the throtle cable and take a look at the oil filter housing, make sure that it puts the oil filter below the crank pulley. (there is two designs for this part)
3. You probably could run the engine with out reprogramming the PCM but you will have all kinds of codes and it will put the PCM into a limp mode
4. The harness needs to be wired into your stock bulk head (just re-pin it). You also have to add some things to it like VSS, reverse switch, fan plug, etc. Your stock fuse panel also has to be wired into the 3800 harness
5. Yes I have all the diagrams. Send me an email and I can mail them out to you.
