I don't really know all the secrets to instant power, but have heard the pulley helps out a ton. Is that correct or is it a mod thats not really noticeable?
worth it.
do a search on google about "rotating mass", read up on it. anytime you lower rotating mass, things speed up.
Not trying to thread jack, but Ive been pondering on getting one of these as well. How much better does it rev up, is it more mid range or top end? for 160 bucks I would like to feel a noticeable difference. Not a miraculous increase but noticeable.
The unorthodox racing pulley for the 2.4 is great. It was one of my first mods and it was one of the better ones. We have them @ www.turbotechracing.com
Also RKSport has one for the ecotec.

I personally have the RK Sport Underdrive Pulley on my ECOTEC. I noticed a bit quicker revs, better acceleration and I think it's worth the money. Pretty cheap if you ask me. If you need to know the belt, just ask the company themselves or do a search on here...I don't remember off hand. When I forgot at one time, I called RK Sport and they told me the #.
I also hear Unorthodox is good for the 2.4s...they don't make one for the ECOTECs so I didn't get one from them.

that depends on your car, the condition of the engine, and the mods you have. obviously the better the condition, and the more mods, the faster it will be in revs...
check all the pulley posts in the last 3 days...

how hard is it to replace the pulley
travis ficken wrote:how hard is it to replace the pulley
Very easy. 4 bolts to remove on the crank. maybe 3-4 on the wheel well liner, basic hand tools.
torque to spec. if you dont have a manual already nows a good time to shell the 12-14 $
Takes bout 15 mins but i didnt notice jack. It may rev quicker but times are still the same
butt dyno says , EH
^^^ dont know about his car, but if it revs faster, that means it gets up to speed faster, so you should be faster overall.
i sure know i climb from 50-70 alot faster than before.
Does not putting a pulley on make cruising use more gas???

No. The worse that it will do is take away take away power from other accessories in your vehicle if you go with an underdrive pulley but it's seriously not a big deal. If you get a stock size pulley but lightweight, there really is no side effect.

Agreed. With the underdrive pulley a huge sound system in your trunk may not be the best idea.

Would a pully off of a 2.4 fit the 2.3???
Only company I've seen to offer things for the 2.3 is Mantapart... and with all the bad things I've heard about them I don't want to order from them....
you can buy a 2.3 pulley on ebay. just enter "beretta Gtz" and you'll find a 2.3 pulley. smaller and it come with the belt #. it's 50$. it's from BOOMZ. I will buy one for my 2.4 and maybe one for my 2.3 later.
you can look on Karo site for a pulley. he got one for the 2.3 but the pulley for the 2.4 and 2.3 are the same.

2.3 Ho
before you order the bomz pulley, try real hard to find a different one. the one they have for the 2.4 is something like 2.3 lbs. others on ebay are as light as 1 lb. and that's what makes most of the difference. it's something like 2.7 hp per lb you take off the crank
welll if the 2.4 and 2.3 are the same, then she can run the rsm, have no issues, and be only 12 ounces of mass.
I said for the 2.3 not the 2.4 and it says 1 lbs. but like event said, why not get the Rk one if it's weight that count.

For the ECOTEC guys---go to the GP Forum. I am running a GP on the Custom Car Grills lightened crank pulley--it's the least expensive one on the market for the ECO. GP is running till May 31st--I just had it extended so we can get all the people we need. Also---you pay half now, and half when the pullies are ready if cash is an issue. Check it out.

Ok so the 2.3 and 2.4 pully is the SAME then?? For sure???
This is why I will never remove a harmonic damper pulley from the crank of my 2.4L. This damn engine has a bad enough track record of spinning bearings.
One of many articles I have found on the subject.

decent article, but some engines are externally balanced and others internally balanced.
ours are supposedly internally balanced. for every guy who has added a lighter flywheel and never had problems, keep in mind its just weight removal from the other side of the crank.
2.4 has a spinning bearings prob from usually #3, which is an oiling issue.

Yeah, I dont like the light flywheel on my car. It just doesn't do it for me. I have talked to a few machine shops about this and they don't agree with the internal vs. external balancing of the crank simply because as soon as you bolt stuff outside the engine to the crank, it throws that balance off. How do the crank/rods/pistons stay balanced when there is a 5lb pulley on one end and a 24lb flywheel on the other? I just don't know.
Event wrote:2.4 has a spinning bearings prob from usually #3, which is an oiling issue.
True, but any extra undo wear to those bearings I would rather avoid.
