code 12 after header install
Friday, May 13, 2005 10:05 AM
after installing my iperformance header, my cpu threw a code 12 "pressure behind catalyst below threshold." thats not word for word but basically what the slip said. is there anything i can do about this to get my check engine light off? could i have tweaked a sensor during the install and only need to replace it? the light didnt come on for a couple hundred miles of driving and after resetting the cpu (disconnecting the battery) it comes on after another couple hundred. what is my best solution?
fyi- this is on a 05cav(eco). thanks all.

There is nothing wrong with your sensor. Mine did the same thing after installing my header. The second sensor reads the efficiency of the converter. After installing higher flowing components, the sensor has different readings so it throws a code. To get the light off, you can buy O2 simulators. These simulators do not fix the problem, they just get the light to turn off by sending a fake reading back to the computer. To actually fix the problem, I think it has to do with the placement of the second O2 sensor. I'm pretty sure if you relocate the sensor a few inches further towards the rear, it will read normal again.

hp is overrated...it's all about the g's

try disconnecting your battery for an hour, then see if it goes off

I never got that code when i installed my header. Now on my car i have two sensors one on the header and one after the cat. You can get a sim for the one on the cat, but you cant get one for the header. Taking your power cords off your battery isnt gong to fix the problem. The code is stored in your cpus memory after you plug the battery cable up its just going to read that code again. The only way to get that code off is to get a OBDII system reader and delete the code. You should first find out what sensor this code is comming from if you have two like me. If its your first sensor on your header get a performance sensor from bosch that may fix the problem. YOu could also get a heated sensor from GM for their 6cyl cars this may work as well. IF its your second sensor get a sim. Wghen you mod your car thats almost the first thing you should get.

"after calalyst" i believe the code is coming from the second sensor. is the simulator going to change performance in any way, or it only gets that light to turn off?

nope doesnt hurt the performance and it will solve your code problem.
