Hey guys, I am new to the forum and I have a couple of questions about adding some muscle mass to my 2002 LS Sport. I am currently running all stock with the exception of the AEM cold air intake and a Borla cat back exhaust. These mods gave me modest gains (about 12 hp altogether). I really want some more power but I can't afford the supercharger b/c I'm in school. I know a lot about engine work, but I'm still a newbie and mods. I was going to purchase RSMs ceramic header and the 62mm throttle body. Does anyone have these things on their ecotec? If so, what type of gain can I expect and were u pleased with what you paid for? I called up RSM, but it's difficult to get an unbias opinion from them. I know that I can't make huge gains with this mod, but I am sick of RSXs pulling ahead of me when I get to 40mph. BTW if you are going to tell me that I need to learn to drive better, please save it. I have been driving standard for 11 years. It's just that the RSX is stronger and I want to know what the header and throttle body will do for me.
i can beat an rsx type s on the highway it doesnt really matter about the brand name of the parts that u have its just that some cheaper brands may do the job better. i have a 2003 cavalier standard and all i needed to beat that rsx was a pacesetter header.
Well I have the RSM stage 1 sc and there 62 mm Tb.When I installed the ceramic header and a high flow cat it made it even better.
Hope this helps you.

Actually, brand names do matter sometimes. When you have little companies that try and copy off of others and don't do it right or make poor quality products. Yeah you are right though, there are some cheaper companies that make as good products.
Michael Bunnell, to answer your question, RSM is a good reputable company and I've actually met people from RSM and they know what they are doing and talking about. I personally have the RSM Throttle Body and the difference is good. It's worth getting. As far as their Header, I don't know. I have a Weapon-R 4-2-1 header and I love it. Thanks Chris and NJ Hondakiller. I was reading an older post about how restrictive the stock TB and exhaust manifold are on the eco. Glad to hear that you guys got some noticeable gain with these mods. Sounds like its worth the $450 investment.
As for Ruben..... dude if you are telling me that you are beating RSXs with a non modified eco, then I have to say that you are full of it. Dude, I've driven both the RSX and the RSX-type S. Sorry to say that a base cavy cant touch it. I know this for certain b/c I was out with my bud who was car shopping today and is trying to decide between the RSX-s and the Cobalt SS (I'm trying to convince him to go with the SS.... hehe). I had to drive both of those cars for him b/c he doensn't really know how to drive standard yet. There is no way that my eco can compete with either of those two cars w/o some serious mods. But anyway, i'm not here to start an argument. I'm just looking for some experienced input rather than stories.
I'll keep you guys posted when I get these mods in the next couple of weeks. Anyone know how i can post some audio wav files on here so that you guys can hear what it sounds like?
Personally, I would recommend the pacesetter. Cheaper and a very good product.
4-2-1 headers help mid tq. 4-1 helps helps in the high hp range.
Be careful where you go to get the TB done... I understand that some people here have had success with RSM? I sent mine to BoltOnHorsepower / Reveco? And I am putting a stock TB on tonight to test a couple of issues... I seem to have a pretty high idle and looks like I am running lean.
I have the AEM CAI, ported TB, Comp Cams, a ported head, RK 4-2-1 header and Magnaflow dual catback...
I'll keep ya updated if I can... Welcome to the site!

OK guys. I was looking at the headers from Weapon R and pacesetter. They are both cheaper than RSM, which is cool for me. My next question is would I benefit more from a 4-2-1 header or a 4-1? RSMs header is 4-1 while most others are 4-2-1. Are they easy to install (ie a custom fit)? Thanks for all your help.
OOps,
I tried to quote someone and Fu***d up. That top paragraph that reads "I personally have the RSM........." is actually a quote from NJS honda killer
I can beat an RSX type S --- ha but on a serious note I have a weapon R header and I would recomend it to anyone who asks the gains were really nice
doubt you will be disapointed with you purchases
Is the weapon R that you have a 4-2-1 or a 4-1? Also, what else do you have that is enabling you to beat the type S? My buddy has a 2005 type S with 210hp and I can't touch him. I have an AEM cai and a borla catback on a 5speed 2002 LS Sport.
read my reg --- and it is a 4-2-1
and I do not beat them I destroy them
^^^ Is that with or without nitrous?
from a dig it is a very close race all motor - without obviously I would not blow them away w/o nitrous
Ahhhhhh... so it's the nitrous that helps you blow them out. Cool cool. I'm a little worried about nitrous mainly b/c I don't know @!#$ about it. I'd be afraid to run it on stock internals. Anyway, I'm definitely going with either the Weapon R or the Pacesetter. Just trying to decide which. Keep an eye out for my pics soon. Thanks.
the type s's round here that are at the track run i mid - lower 14
its funny tho cuz i take them off the line
must scare the crap out of them
