stroked 2.4
Friday, May 06, 2005 9:07 AM
my friend keeps talking about wanting to stroke his 2.4, and I was wondering, how many people have a stroked 2.4. The displacement goes to 2.6 or something like that doesn't it? And how streetable would it be? if running 93 octane is all it takes (which I doubt) then I can see how it may be a cool mod, but if there are a lot of other things involved, say with ignition, timing, and fuel that would be, not quite so streetable, I think I should let him know. Any input would be helpful.

mantapart has a quad4 2.3 stroked to 2.5. i'm sure there's plenty of writeups regarding stroker projects. how much do you know about engine internals and theory?

The 2.4 is already basically a stroker motor.

Im kinda iffy about strocking. What is done to the motor when it is strocked? I know the displacement increased, so is it a larger bore?? There has got to be more than that to it.

Stroking the motor is different from boring it. You increase the distance the piston travels, so it brings more air into the cylinder (which is where you get the higher displacement). Boring the motor increases the cylinder diameter, stroking lengthens the stroke.

I have never seen anyone build a stroker motor from a 2.4. i have only heard of people doing it with a 2.3 block.

Yeah, 2.3L block, and 2.4L crank. you be stoked to 2.5L.

2.4 crank plus 2.3 block = 2.5L quad..

the race shop sells stroker cranks for the 2.3. ive never heard of a stroker crank for the 2.4 though..

Oh yea duh, i guess i shoulda tried to think about it. That would be awesome if strokers were made for our 2.4s.

the kits did exist. they had two strokers 2.2 ohv stroked to 2.4 ohv and the 2.4 dohc stroked to 2.6 dohc. i forget the name of the company but they have long been out of business for about 2 years.

stroking is a sure fire way to get more torque but i think with 2.6 kit the suggested redline went down to like 5,000RPM.

anyway the only way to get one would be a custom job with their specs (or your own) or find someone that has it and is selling it.

^ your thinking of dragevolution? I think that was the name of the company making the stroker 2.2 ohv kits.

the answer I was looking for more then any has been answered. The 2.4 obviously was a 2.3 that had something ( bore or stroke), which was the stroke, increased to increase displacement which makes it a "storker" already. but I didn't know if there was a kit that came witha different crank for the 2.4 that made it a 2.6. The reduced redline is a big issue. the 2.3 w/ a 2.4 crank is another answer I was looking for, but as for now, I guess increasing bore would be the best way to increase displacement. I know enough about internals and theory to know that getting the clearance for a larger crank to swing in an already stroked motor would be kind of a pain in the ass and make it that much less streetable in my opinion.

the stoke kit is sold by rksport, and it has been around for a while, it does work, and it does not bring your redline down to 5,000, the stroker kit is motor work, the redline is determined by ur ecu, with it you can redline at 7,000, but its not recomednded due to the fact that you will actually loose power, and in order for this to work, you should already have several bolt ons, this is a set up that is meant to bring out the performance on your 2.4, but after you have modified it, if you haven't then it won't perform as well.

the longer your stroke, the more 'out of square' your motor is, in effect reducing the rev limit of your engine. The more balanced your internals are, the higher you can rev.

So yes, stroking your motor reduces the rev range of your engine, but balancing the internals can bring that back up some.

after 6,500RPM the downforce on the piston is doubled, or so says some big cheese at spoon, i couldn't spell his name if i tried. but it does explain why the suggested red on most economy turds is around 6500.
