I see that this seems to be a common mod that everyone is doing. My question is does it actually make that much of a difference. Now I've read posts that people said they "feel a difference" but that is kinda arbitrary. Does anyone have proof such as dyno sheets or anything.
Thanks
Rich
not sure on the 2.2, but on a 2.4 a 62 mm TB has been dynod to add 10 hp
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
if you think about it it should diffenatly make a differance... its the first bottle neck that the intake air has to go through... just like if you only install a catback and no header witht the stock cat its not gonna do anything but make it louder.. if you have an intake on there(3") the next thing it goes through is a 52mm(?) TB which is a large drop in size.. i wouldnt go 62 on a 2.2 unless you are going to go turbo though maybe 59mm.
"There is no point in looking fast if your not."
i'm actually leaving right now to find a shop to get my bored out to 56mm.
i think 56mm is the easiest way, because you can get the plate from a 2.3l quad four and have a shop bore your stock, or an extra TB
^^^^or just use a 2.3 tb, thats probably the easiest way
dont you have to modify the 2.3 tb to get it to work....?
"There is no point in looking fast if your not."
yes but only minor modifications. for mine, i had to use a jack knife to carve out the hole where the ball on the throttle cable fits in on the tb and i had to get a rubber vacuum tee to hook all the vacuum lines back up. about $40US all together and one of the most noticeable mods i've done.
on a 2200 the 2.3 tb works but on a 2.2 it wont!
thats right, i forgot to mention that
Has anyone ever tried to dremel out thier TB? To perhaps get an hour glass shape leaving the butterfly stock?

What's the advantage of that?
1995 Pontiac Sunfire 2Dr.

The hour glass shap would increase the velocity going into the plenum, but it would lose that veocity in the plenum. The over-sized TB increases the volume of air going into the plenum, hence more HP in the mid to upper RPM bands, some times(depending on the amount overbored) resulting in a loss of low end torque.
I wasn't sure how that would be. Anyone in the Tampa/Sarasota area know of any shops that have bored your TB? How was the quality and price?

sorry for bringing this back
but when I got teh 2.3 TB i test fitted it on my spare 2200 (out of a 99) and there is no way it would fit. THere is a huge gap around one edge, and there is only 3 mounting bolts instead of 4. i really don't see how this would work with the TB out of a TB.
and yes i'm sure the TB is out of a 2.3l quad four. a Grand Am to be exact

hmm...not sure what your problem is. mine fit perfectly. and it only has 2 mounting mounting bolts - one front driver side, the other back passenger side (diagonal). i believe it came from a 92 grand am
So is a 56 mm tb the way to go without losing the low end on a 2.2? I've been looking into JBP for this option. It'll be $72 for the bore plus $80 for the core charge. Has anyone gone through JBP for this? Is this a good idea and a decent price? Thanks for the information.
Did some more research...I think what I have posted there is for the bore only.
Then I found this...
Throttle Body You also pay $120 for the core charge, which I'd assume you get back when they recieve your stock throttle body.
i just bought a throttle body off a 2.3 ho engine and the guy told me he put his on his 2200 with no problems . a direct bolt on ..
