question on pulling the 2.4
Friday, April 29, 2005 7:16 PM
Im going to be pulling the 2.4 out of my 96 Z24. Would it be easier to pull the engine out from the top with the tranny or unbolt the tranny and pull just the engine? I saw one good post about this and I saw someone was able to pull just the engine out without the tranny. Thats what I would really like to do but would it be easier to just pull the tranny out as well? Im just looking for the easiest way to do this I really dont want to have to pull the tranny out if I dont have to.

if you dont pull the tranny with it, it will be hard b/c you have to take the shaft from the motor out off the tranny which is a long piece and i dont know if there is enough room to do it that way and if you dont, you need another support on the tranny and u just have to risk something happening to it when it is in the car. and when it is out, you can replace the axel seals and other things like the throw out bearing and stuff.

I pulled mine out about 3 months ago. We took it out from the top. Scrached the hell out the flywheel. But i didnt have a lift to use either. The easiest way to do it would be unbolt the subframe brace and everything then raise the car on a lift and go from there. But not all of us have a lift we can leave a car on for a few days while we do the work. Anywho. If you are carefull out the top will work. Just be sure to remove the pully. That will give u a little exrta room to shift the motor over. Oh yeah dont forget about the flywheel bolts.
