Well, I went to the track last night in expectations of breaking my best of 15.631.
I was close, 20 thousands close but not close enough.
I've come to realize that the downpipe is my limiting factor to getting fast and proves the old theory of exhaust flow and restrictions.
Even though the car has more power with the new ignition system, would never get past the 87mph barrier or my 15.6 barrier.
Up to 3/4 throttle, the car is a beast. Full throttle is no better than 3/4 and is extremely limiting on the top end and all through the rpms.
My times for the night were:
2.24 60ft time, 9.99 1/8 mile w/68.80 speed and a 15.6964 for the et.
2.25 60ft time, 9.97 1/8 mile w/68.52 speed and a 15.6581 for the et.
2.27 60ft time, 10.01 1/8 mile w/ 69.52 speed and a 15.69 for the et.
2.21 60ft time, 10.02 1/8 mile w/ 68.78 speed and a 15.73 for the et.
My trap speeds were 87.92, 87.45, 87.36, and 87.72.
I launched 2500rpms on the last run as an all out effort to break my et record and came away with an good 60 foot time. The car felt great on the run, shifted superbly (thank you autotransinterceptor), and still came away with no record.
It was 72 degrees with about 60 percent humidity and I had the back seat pulled with my woofer box pulled too.
Mind you, that when I got the 15.631 record, I had no carpet, no passenger seat, along with the no spare tire and the items listed above.
I could've broke the record if all that was done but know I can do it with just the minor items pulled.
I'll give kudos to Chevrolet to making one heck of a strong engine and tranny for the Cavaliers. 148,000 miles and still able to pull of good times with it.
There's no faster Cavalier running that I know of so it makes ppl look when I run there. I like that.
In a few months, I'm getting rid of the restrictive down pipe that is keeping me at the 15.6 range.
I'ts been over 2 years ago that I ran that time and with all of the new mods added since then, should realistically be doing 15.4's or better.
I know this and am very aggrevated that the muffler shop would do this knowing that I was specific in my needs for the right size piping.
Consequently, I no longer give them good reviews and never send anyone their way for muffler work.
If anyone has had this happen to you then you know what I'm going through right now. Not having the money to fund the full exhaust I want right now (paintball team needs me) will keep me slow and ashamed that when I tell all of what's been done to have such terrible (not really, but you know what I mean) times.
Dang, another long post.
The lesson here is that if you get muffler and exhaust work done, to check it before you leave the muffler shop to make sure you don't go through this heartache yourself.
Now I have the stigma of going to the track and remaining forever at the 15.6 level.
Oh, did I tell you I still had fun??
I'd seen some nice Imports at the track too.
It's the only place where you can go to see the real times of cars you'd think were faster.

Full write-up is in the works, nearly complete and will have posted up by next week.
Even though my times didn't reflect what I know is a better ignition system, I'm keeping the setup, changing the downpipe and going to prove it that it works.
Besides, it's priceless to see the Import guys shake their head when they're looking at your engine bay, wondering what engine is in there. lol
