Running Rich after HO mani swap?
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 6:31 PM
Okay I finnished up my HO swap about a week ago and everyting seems to be running good. Except, I have gotten really poor gas milage on this tank, and with gas at over $2.00 per gallon I need this fixed. I am using all 2.4 sensors including the 2.4 map sensor. In the engine bay you can faintly smell gas and sometimes you can smell it at the exhuast. I do have a CEL but only for the EGR.
Do I need to use the 2.3 MAP sensor?
If not, what else could be causing it to run rich?
Anyone else have this problem?
Also, what is the normal A/F mixture for the 2.4?

All help is appriciated

my gas milage never changed , and i used the 56 mm tb with the 2.3 tps and iat

the 2.3 map is different than the 2.4 map , so you have to use the 2.4map

if your using the 2.3 tb or a 56mm tb or whatnot then you should also need to replace your IAC valve with a 2.3 IAC....and from what im told the 2.4 tps will work on the 2.3tb

I am using the 2.3 tps and IAC and Map, all three and this tank has gone way too fast so I will check the mileage when I fillup today to be sure.

Also, to get the old mani out We Did pull out the injectors and fuel rail and then we pushed them all back in afterwards, could that have something to do with it?

Your bad gas mileage is being caused by your CEL.

well the egr valve is supposed to help with gas mileage. also I think i might have had bad mileage when I first put mine on, but that was from getting on it and listening to that nice growl. but I don't know, good luck.

the 2.4 tps needs to be modified to work with the 2.3 tb , its easier to use the 2.3 tps

have your codes checked and see if there is a map code , from using the 2.3 map sensor

that might be causing it

and the egr has nothing to do with milage , it main purpose is to keep emissions down , and to help prevent detnation

If you are smelling gas, I would be checking to make sure the injectors are in all the way, might not be seated all the way.

use the 2.3 IAC and TPS and 2.4 MAP.

Yeah, thats my mistake, I AM using the 2.4 Map sensor, I miss-typed that as I was on my way out the door. I will take it into Vo-tech next week and re-scan and while I'm there I can use the Scan tool (Very nice tool, MAC MODIS ) to tell me what my A/F ratio is. What is the correct range for the A/F ratio anyways?

n/m, i did some reading. i wonder if i can rig up the EGR to the s/c somehow. Probably will be pretty ghetto. lol. (as the egr simulator doesnt like my car)

sorry to get off topic.

because burnt gas doesnt burn again , so it helps to lower the combustion temp down
