Well unless your using Forced induction or nitro, i would use the stock plugs.

i forget how often they say for the eco
is it 50k or 100k?

Its 100k for the ecotecs. I am planning on forced induction in the near future, but the iridium plugs just work best with forced induction and nitro. They are however, better plugs than our stock platinums. I'm looking to try a few different types before I finish building my engine so I know what is best. I was just wondering if NGK or Denso has the better plugs. I drive a lot and don't think my stock plugs will last to 100k....I'm already at 60k and I drive an 03.

Well,
The Densos have the smalles mm electrode.
Something insane like 4mm or something.
And NGKs are like 7mm. Still tiny.

The Densos put a 'U' grove in the 'hook' contact part of the plug.
Sorry I don't know the proper terminology.

I picked up a factory replacement set of NGKs,(TR55IX) cause the shop had the price listed wrong so they were cheaper than factory Delcos.
Haven't installed them, but they come pre gapped so I"ll try them sooner or later.

Still though, everyone is going with TR6.
Hhmmmm,

Is there any advantage to plugs that have 2 or 4 'hooks' opposed to one?

Soory I dont know the big words either when it comes to plugs.

No, it's just a gimmic to sell the plugs. The theory is that the produce multiple flame fronts(which they do) during the combustion process, creating a more efficiant burn. Unfortunately the multiple electrodes also shroud the flame front, which negates the adavtage they are trying to create. This is even more pronounced on the +4 plugs.

stock are fine. I went from stock to Bosch 4 (garbage) to Bosch Single to GM Supercharger plugs. Now i am back to stock and my car is running much better and smoother. I had no gain from any plug i was looking to have a smoother idle etc.

Just stick with stock.

i got bosh platinum @!#$.. most expensive stuff i found at a local automotive store.. and my car started running worse.

I replaced it recently with ACDELCO stock plugs ( more expensive then the other ones) 11$ CAN/plug and my car has been running better then ever.

what are the stock plugs? Bosch what?
Re: Spark Plugs

Standard replacement Copper Core plug = 25 - 50K KMS
Standard replacement Platinum Plug = 100-120K KMS
Standard replacement Iridium Plug = 160-180K KMS

Copper Core is the one to use for boost/nitrous, plats are alright for boost but if you foul a plug they are junk, iridiums are for the grandmas that never take care of there car, never beat on it, and never want to touch another plug again.

There is no part number for IRIDIUM plugs in either DENSO or NGK for the ECOTEC. If you can find one, let me know, I called a bunch of places locally, they just don't make them for the ecotec.

Yes, does anyone have the part number for the oem acdelco plugs that everyone says are great? I run +4s now, and my car has a lumpy lumpy lumpy idle..heheheh..If it makes a diff, I have a 96 2.2l. Anyone know the acdelco plug number for this engine?

How hard is it to change the plugs in 2000, Z24, 2.4?
Re: Spark Plugs
Sunday, April 03, 2005 2:10 PM
not hard at all dave. all you need is to take the cover that says 2.4 twin cam on it. they are under that
