I received an e-mail from Comp-cams after asking about cam's for ECOTEC motors. They have 3 different cams for n/a use one for superchargers and one for turbo applications. They don't have them listed in their catalog yet but are available trough the1-800-# on their web sight. They can of course custom grind cams too.
Do you have any other info?? Such as grind, price etc.??

"Hey man is that a Cavalier?" "Yeah." What you got in it?" "It's stock." "Oh."

That's who made mine
I won't say I am the first to have gotten them from there, cause I don't know, but Chris Mays said that they had just finished up some testing on them... I had mine installed prior to Bash '04 and they def made a difference. How much of one, I couldn't tell ya...
cool, this is interesting

Anybody know or find out anymore about these?
COMP Cams® announces the release of a new line of performance camshafts for 2.0-liter, 2.2-liter GM ECOTEC powered applications. The COMP Cams® ECOTEC camshafts provide increased horsepower and all around performance for this increasingly popular sport compact application, without compromising engine durability. Using Spintron® developed ECOTEC lobe profiles, the COMP Cams® engineering team optimized intake and exhaust flow to deliver dramatic performance improvements. This was accomplished by opening the intake valves faster with aggressive “fast ramp” lobe designs. The results are improved throttle response and “seat of the pants” performance. The new COMP camshafts also utilize quicker valve closings, giving the 2.0-liter, 2.2-liter ECOTEC engine a much broader power band.
COMP Cams® ECOTEC camshafts are available in five different configurations (3 street & strip, 1 blower, 1 turbo grind), as well as custom all-out drag racing grinds on billet steel cores. COMP Cams®’ ECOTEC camshafts are the perfect complement to common bolt-on performance components and do not require a major engine rebuild to install. For more information on the COMP Cams® GM ECOTEC Camshafts contact your local COMP Cams® dealer or visit us online at www.compcams.com.

Can't wait to get the motor back together! These and a cnc ported head should due nicely.
I'll keep everyone posted.

ALMOST NEVER is not the same as NEVER.
I've never had a cel with the cams...
Ask for Chris Mays when you call Comp...
^^^^ ok let me reiterate that statement hahaha as long as i dont let the car idle longer then 10-15 min i never get the CEL
04 sunfire auto, mid 15's n/a, and still going
Who ever gets them in first, I hope they'll like removing them and placing the stock ones back in. Unless you get your ECU reprogrammed for those cam specs, your ECU is going to be running pissed off. And I have ported heads.
I had a set regrinded to .400" and 232 duration @.050" on both intake and exhaust, they sound great at high RPM and have a nice lope at idle but the check engine light kept shooting missfire because the fuel pattern needs to be adjusted to the more aggressive valve profile, timing, and openings.
Hell, my cams weren't even that aggressive of a cam for the ECU to get upset, but thats what you get with Speed Density Electronic Fuel Injection.
My LS1 is running a 224/228 intake and exhaust with .571" lift with the car dyno tuned for this cam, and it runs smooth with a good muscle car lope at idle.
I got a buddy thats running a 232/236 intake and exhaust with a .600" lift on his LS1 with STOCK Heads and dyno tuning. NOW THATS A CAM TO PISS OFF A ECU.
But it doesn't becuse it has a Mass Air Flow Sensor and the timing and fuel curve was adjusted to this big ass cam. I know the Saturn Ion Redline and Saab 9-3s come with Mass Air Flow Sensors on their Ecotecs.
If you still think the comp cams will work without ECU tuning, call them and talk to them.
They are the BEST Camshaft company Period, but if they say they grinded these cams so you don't have to retune your ECU, the profiles on them are so small they aren't even worth buying because they'll come with very minimal horespower gain.
You will get into horsepower when the new profile on a comp cam is so big that it has insanely grew outside the stock ECU's parameter and understanding of whats going on so thats when you dyno tune engine to the cam AND the already existing mods ( For exmaple, Pulley, throttle body, intake, free flowing exhaust with no cat, ignition system, etc,etc.).
But hey, I could be wrong, before I buy my own set of Comp Cams, I want to hear somebodys results.
Hey, Travis, are you getting the patriot head after all?
Alex, Called Comp Cams a couple of hours after ordering them. After dealing with their rude customer service for the second time, I found out you would need ecu adjusting. SO, I obviously cancelled my order.
On the head...I have the money burning a hole in my pocket. I was about to order the stage2 patriot, when Karo found the place GM gets their heads done. He's waiting on the specs of the 4 variations of the cnc ported head they have. Once we compare the flow numbers to Patriot, I'll place my order.
I'll def keep in touch. Can't wait.
if you have the GM handbook for building ecotecs it states the flow numbers of thier race head and it is actually less than 1-2 cfm off the patriot II head
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
I just compared the too myself and the GM race head had a HUGE diff in flow. Usually around 10+cfm in difference.
Travis, I'm glad you called Comp Cam and got everything firgured out.
Oh, and Rodimus Prime, don't believe a flipping word what Patriots says or what flow numbers they post. In the LS1 world, basically their reputation is ruin because they were notorious for selling heads that didn't meet the specs they claimed.
Its best to go Karos route, no guess work and flow numbers right then and there of YOUR OWN head, not Lisa Kubos (which Patriot supposely ported, but of course they going to do a good job on her race head and give the normal Joe a dump.)
Can't wait to here your heads flow numbers, Travis.
