Aluminum Flywheels

I am getting ready to install a new clutch. I was wondering if I should install an aluminum flywheel.
What benifit is the Aluminum Flywheel?
Is it just reduced vehicle weight?
Will it allow the vehicle to accelerate better?

its reduced rotational weight. from what i hear taking every 1 pound of rotational weight is like taking away 8 pounds of regular weight or something to that effect. i want one. and yes it should make the vehicle accelerate faster.

it's not ghetto, it's "in progress"

Lighter rotational weight will get you into the power band faster because the engine revs up alot faster.

HOWEVER, it basically has made my 5th gear worthless, I can use it to cruise, but if I go up any kind of hill, I have to downshift to th all the time...there is no power in 5th anymore...not that there was much to begin with, but it is not something I am that happy with. maybe for autoX it will be better as you can rev faster, but my new engine will have the stock flywheel remachined and installed again. It is no good on a daily driven car. I can say I tried it and did not like it.

I like mine, got an 8lb spec flywheel from Karo, along with a stage 3 clutch. I have had no problem yet with shifting, but you can tell the difference with how fast it does spin. All in all, I like mine.

a heavier flywheel will increase launching ( for 4x4's, torque, rockcrawling)
a lightweight flywheel is for higher rpm's ( quiker spooling up to high powerband horsepower, freeways)
I installed a centerforce flywheel and act clutch on my NA 86 rx7, and did not like it much. it was good on the freeway, but to start the car rolling from a dead stop in first ( i.e. at stoplights), I kind of had to feather the clutch or it would almost fall on its face and stall.
the 2.2 has a good amount of torque, so I wouldn't mess with the flywheel, but it is your car.
But you might want to take out your flywheel and get it resurfaced at a machine shop while you are installing the clutch. I just helped my brother with this job ( centerforce dual friction)on his 98 4x4 v6 tacoma, over the three day weekend and it came out cherry.

I have a flywheel on my daily driver and i am not experiencing what you guys are. I like mine. I have had mine for over a year now and no regrets.
