Ecotech tach adapter.....
Monday, November 29, 2004 10:21 PM
by the way I know its spelled ecotec but I figured if I added the H someone would come just to complain and then read this and might have somethign to say

Ok I've read thing saying it does work I've read things saying it doesn't. I don't want a big ass goofy looking tach that looks more like a dinner plate then a gauge, I just want to hook up a shift light. So whats the deal with the tach adapters?? Also I just need an RPM signal, and the crap that comes with the light correct?

Thanks
Use this,

MSD Distributorless Tach Driver

MSD brand
Distibutorless Tach Driver
Part # 8913

That is what i'm using with my Ractive Tach, so I can't see why you couldn't use it..........

I just hooked up my SDS EIC and was told by the former ecotec turbo owner that, The wire you must splice into for RPM reading is the ORANGE wire.

Its all hooked up but I don't have the injectors welded in yet, so I don't know if it really works.

Any Help???

the red wires reffer to the wiring built into the tach driver....

the pink wire is the one i reffered to in my post up there

actually you really dont have to have a tach adapter if you dont mind your tach only reading half your RPM'S..as for the wire you can use just about any of them and get a signal...if half rps isnt important just set your shiftlite to come on at about 2,700 or 2,800 rmp's and that should really be about 5 and a quarter or 6k rpm's

Well, I tapped the pink wire (per MSD's instructions), but there are I think 2 wires in the custer that work so.........

Darkstars: Yeah just wired it in and then wired up the tach, easy as ckae or pie, whichever you like........
i know, bringing back a dead post, but i had a question. stand alone shift lights that are RPM controlled still have to have a tach adapter to work on a j, right? (curses under his breath).

Why do you need this? You were parting out your car. Again, you fail at unmodding.

By the way... it's Ecotec

this is an old post, rather than start a new one and have them link me to this post, i just re opened it. now, the question is, do i have to have an adapter regardless of the tach or lite i use to tap into the orange wire shown here?

basically the reason being that when you tap into one rpm on one of the TWO coils you'll only get half an rpm signal

i GUESS you could run a shift light off half rpms but i'm not sure how well it would work

and i wouldn't say it's a "j" thing... more an ecotec thing (as far as i know)

and yes, this post is old.... ryan is still being all womanish about his car and modding it or unmodding it...

actually, that will work, the shift light goes up to over 12k rpms, so, therefore, all i gotta do is set the shift light close to max, and the sucker will light up at 6k when i want to shift

thanks all!

no, because you'll be reading HALF of your actual rpms, meaning you need the light to come on at like 3200 rpms lol
