My reverse lights don't come on anymore in my 04 sunfire.
I have a trailer hitch and a lighting hook up so my dealer won't fix it under warranty because he says I messes with the electronics.
I know the 03's had a recall re the reverse lights.
the lights come on occasionally so the bulbs are fine.
Where is the fault?

Try hooking up a set of bulbs to the trailer wiring. If they come on reliably, the problem exists in the harness between the trailer wiring and the reverse lights. If the bulbs do the same thing as your normal reverse lights then the problem exists somewhere in the wiring from the trailer connection back to the interior of the car, or at the reverse switch on the transmission. The only other thing is maybe get a short detector, but one only needs that if they are blowing fuses. Best of luck

Is it an automatic or 5 speed? The reverse lamp switch in the tranny tends to go bad. Mine did on my '03 earlier this year, had it replaced under warranty.

I have a 5 speed.
The trailer lights are hooked up to the signal lights, not the reverse lights.
(My hooking up the wiring doesn't have anything to do with the reverse lights going out, it's just the dealership excuse for not having to look at it.)
I tow a jetski and a snowmobile. Maximum weight with the trailer included is 600 lbs.
Where is this reverse lamp switch located?

it on the back side of the trans , if you turn the wheels to the right , you can use a flash light and see the switch
my friends 02 z24 went out , and my g/fs 02 ls sport went out
Is this a switch that can easily be replaced on my own? and how? My reverse lights are out also....any idea of how much a new switch is?
