find the upper rad hose from the radiator end and folllow it until you reach the end, this is where the thermostat should be.

On the top right? If its supposed to be there, there isnt one. I took that hose off because I firugred that owuld be the logical place for it, but I dint find anything.

Just to make sure, when looking at the motor, its on the top right, just below where the stock intake should be correct?

It should be like this:

( Thermostat)
| | Upper Rad Hose
__Radiator_____

I hope you can make that out. Its not about taking the hose off, its about taking the housing off, the thermostat is inside there.

Question: Does it go in the metal thing on the head, or on the hose itself? I unbolted the metal thing that connects the hose to the head and tried it in there, and it fits, but I cannot get the metal thing to go back on without taking the thermostat out. I did however find the old gasket that was on there, it was around the metal thing that connects the hose to the head.

Sorry, Im new to this whole do it yourself: automobiles thing.

So am I in the wrong part of the car? Does it go on the radiator or the head?

Thermostat is prob right, But you need a pic of where it should be, describing it obviously doesnt help you much.

Im pretty sure I got it in the right spot but it will not go back together with it in.

By looking in your sig, the rad hose just below the blue wire/thing that goes to the gauges (I think thats wha tit goes to) is where its at. There was no thermostat in there, which makes sense as to why the car will not heat up.

If the thermostat doesnt fit, did you remove the old gasket and old thermostat?

I removed the old gasket, but there is no old thermostat which is why my heater wouldnt work and my car would never warm up to begin with, which is why I checked the thermostat at all.

Im gonna call auto zone and see if this is the one I need and if it is Ill have one of my friends come look at it. It seems like its just a litle too big for the housing part that has the hose on it to go in far enough to get the nuts on.

No Im in the right area. the metal piece I took off says "thermostat housing" and it had a thermostat gasket around the housin inlet. There just was no thermostat. Ive taken the thermostat out of a couple of my cars during the summer to get around without overheating a lot, but I always put them in when it got cold. Now this thing is just a @!#$ty car. I bought it as it sets today for 1700 and can not wait till I get rid of it. There are so many problems with it, and now I find this one out on top of it.

Anyway, I just bolted the housing back together and put new fluids in it, runs fine now. Still no thermastat so I will still have the same problems as I did before, but Ill just get rid of it when I can to some dealership as a trade in and drive one of my mirage's this winter.

Thermostat is lower left side, near the water pump. There's 2 8 millimeter bolts that need to come out. The one on the right side of the motor is just a water inlet. The water inlet takes teh triangular paper gasket, the thermostat needs the rubber gasket.
