Hey everyone. I'm scratching my head here so maybe someone could help me with this. the battery in my 96Z is only like a year and a half old, and a few weeks ago i went out to go to work. and its dead. it will start fine being jumped, and will start and run fine if im driving it, and it doesnt sit too long. but if i come home from work in the morning and dont drive it till i leave again at night, it'll be dead again. its only happened since it started getting really cold. i have 2 10 inch subs in the trunk with a soundstream reference 405 amp, but i've never had a problem with power loss since i've had the car. I had the battery and alternator tested and things came up fine but it said there was a draw on the system somewhere. so my problem is, what is drawing my battery dead, so suddenly now that its cold. nothing has changed as far as elecrical components or anything, so im a lil confused and appreciate any help. thanks
~David
Buy a yellow top optima battery. Thats the best advance i can give.
Do you have a security system? Might be the draw.
do you keep any lights or neons on? Might be a draw.
Did you play with any of the elctrical wiring since the changing of the battery?
I think its most likey the alt but you said it was fine.
How are your grounds too btw?
Grrrrr, Don't get me started again on those yellow top batteries! But an excellent point was brought up that they may have improved the quailty of them so actualy I will have to defer my Grrrrr untill I can obtain more evidence in either direction.
But from what you say it sounds like you just have a bad battery. Most people make the common mistake of thinking the cold weather kills batteries, it does not. rather the opposit is true HEAT kills batteries but you don't know its been hurt by the heat untill you need to depend on the cold cranking amps when its cold and they are not there anymore.
It sounds like you just have a dead battery. Take it back for its warrenty.

well i dont have a security system or anything, and i havent added any new electrical components in like a year so if soemthing is drawing power then it just started recently. a friend of mine told me to go through with a voltmeter and check all my fuses and stuff to see if something is staying hot. other than that though im not sure what it could be. i first thought maybe the battery had a dead cell in it, but im told that the tool used to test it said that theres a current draw soemwhere. im gonna go through and check it over tonight or tommorrow. hopefully i find soemthing.
Well don't forget that regardless even if you have everything off there is allways a small curent draw. Think about the clock and memory in your radio and also the comp allways has a small draw. I'm still betting bad battery. I'd get it load tested just to be sure.

did that already. it came up good with a low charge. so im gonna get a good charge on it and do it again. if it still comes up good then im gonna start with my stereo wires, and rule things out from there.
Have you tested the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running to make sure the battery is being charged correctly as you drive, i.e. around 14/14.5 volts.
The charge light may go out but the battery may still not be receiving the correct charge(Broken crimped connector on mine)
You say the alternator and battery were good but the battery had low charge and this fault would cause those symptoms
Good Luck

OK....well i got it done. finally. took the battery off and took it to autozone to get charged. they tested it first and it came up bad. so needless to say i got a free battery out of the deal. it must have been coming up good on the car because the alternator is keeping the charge up while its running. we'll see what happens. now i need to find out why my turn signal doesnt work right...its always something...lol. but thanks everyone for the help.
Well good luck with the blinker. Glad to help with the battery issue.
