The haynes manual said to remove the whole fan assembly and then disconnect the motor

yes, the whole assembly comes out as one, there is one bolt on the left side (looking at engine, front front of car) then u just lift up out of the clips on the right side, and pull out

Ok, I realize this was posted some time ago, but I was hoping someone could give me a little help...I have tried all night to get the fan assembly out to replace the motor, but I can NOT get that top clip over the radiator. The 2 on the right came out fine, but there's not enough room to get the top over the radiator lip. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem.

I can't get the two left clips off, do they just pop loose?

The right clip, do I need to lift the shoud up and then pry the shroud clip over the radiator?

I thought the whole shroud would just easily;y come off once the bolt was removed. I guess not.

Thanks!

1. Remove the bolt on the lower passenger side corner of the fan housing.

2. Pull/ push up on the tabs on the driver side of the housing; the top clip/ tab will move up along with them.

3. Do like I did: Lift the housing up just enough to clear the radiator, then drop it down and remove it from underneath the car.

i might have to replace my fan motor too. my cooling fan isnt kicking on which causes my engine to overheat in traffic . i've checked the fuses. but i dont know how to check the relays to see if they are still good. the only other thing i can think of that could be broken is the motor itself. did u guys have the same problem?

Sean M - If your fan turns on when the A/C is switched on, then the relay is not bad. In that case it would be a bad High Temperature switch.

If your fan does not work with the A/C on, consider this. The blower relay is identical to the cooling fan relay, so you can temporarily swap them to see if the fan will work.

A Haynes manual will tell you the procedure to test the Relay. If you need a copy of the page, send me your email address.

yeah, i have a haynes manual for it. today i tested the fan motor and found it to be bad, so i replaced it, but its still not coming on. the temperature gauge reads really spastic too, it keeps dipping and rising when it wants too. does that indicate something is broken? and the fan doesnt kick on with the a/c either... but the hvac blower doesnt work b/c of a lose wire...

There is a procedure in the Haynes manual to bypass the relays (temporarily). Try that and if the fan turns on then that indicated the relays. I know you said you tested them to be good. If the fan does not turn on with the bypass then that indicates power to the relay is not there.

Haynes tells you to check the voltage at the relay box also, did you do that and what did you find?

ok, so it turned out to be a lose connection or wire at the ECT. i jammed a voltameter pin in there to test it and the rpms droped about 200 rpm. i thought i damaged something, so i figured i would turn on the a/c to see if it would kick on and it DID! we'll se how it holds up in tomorrow's 50 mile commute. now all i need to do if fix the lose blower motor wire! for all those having trouble with their rad fan, try the ECT.
