Reverse lights NOT working
Monday, November 28, 2005 11:26 AM
I tried a search but came up with nothing so I hope someone can help me out.

My reverse lights quit working a few months ago and didnt work for about a month or two, then all of a sudden they worked for about 2-3 days. Now, they havent worked since then and its been atleast another month. I took both bulbs out and they appear to be in good condition. Does anyone know what could be wrong that they dont come on when I put my car in reverse?

thanks

p.s. dont know if it matters but my car is a 5speed manual.

There's a thread with pictures too...I think...can't seem to find that one, but this one helped me fix it when I had the exact same symptom.

There is a switch that is actuated from the inside of the trans that turns on your reverse lights. I pulled mine out, fiddled with it a little bit and it seemed to work again, so I just put it back in and they've stayed working ever since. (A helper to watch the tail lights is useful here). The reverse lights should light up when you press the switch (duh...) and if they don't, replace the switch.

Advance Auto has trouble with the 2000 (they still list the switch for the Isuzu trans instead of the Getrag) model year, but the computer systems for the various parts stores should be have the right one for the '02 year Getrag. It's really not that bad to get to.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
