OBD2 Port malfunction
Wednesday, November 09, 2005 10:07 PM
I went to scan my car with and obd2 scanner tonight and something strange happened, it wouldn't scan. It came up with an error something along the lines of no power reaching the port. So i checked the cig fuse in the drivers door fuse box and the wires leading in the port, everything checked out ok. Any idea what could be causeing this, my frustrations with this car continue to mount

If you're powering the scanner through the cig lighter, i believe that is unnecessary, as OBD II gets power from the port. Also do you have any bent or loose terminal pins (male or female)? How about broken wires in the scanner leads? Maybe you should check for continuity. Good luck.

No, the scanner isn't powered through the cig lighter, the ports 12v + is wired to the same fuse as the cig lighter i believe thats why i said it was still working, and the scanner worked on 3 other j's. How would i check for power to the port, which of the 5 or so wires back there is the power wire, orange?

I checked all the connections with a multimeter, 12.6-12.8 volts on all except the tan wire which varied between 3-8 volts, could this be the cause of my problem and how do i fix it if it is?

are you having any problem with the dummy lights in the dash cluster?

If you are it could be a short in one of the class 2 data transfer wires (the purple ones).
I had this same problem and I ended up finding a short in this wire under the radiator going to the PCM.

No dummy lights yet, i believe the purple wire was working, dunno 100% with this freaking car anymore tho. It seems to be the tan malfunctioning but i'll check for shorts, anyidea on common places to look?
