Slow Acceleration Problem, Please Help
Sunday, October 16, 2005 12:03 AM
Alright, my girlfriend drives a 98 2 door Cavalier. I was driving it the other day and noticed it has very poor acceleration from a low speed. It was kinda wierd because if I WOT from 0 it would go but not like I would expect. Now I coast at 25 mph, go WOT, it drops a gear (i think) or whatever it does and gets up n goes. Not sure why it does this, seeing as it should have full power from 0. I replaced her air filter with a OEM one cause the damn K&N's are like 30 bux, im not sure if its all worth it ( anyone have any expierience?). Im going to change the oil tomorow, god never seen a car with such a hard to get to oil filter uhhhh! But yea hopefully this will help, if not il be moving on to a fuel filter replacement, spark plug and wire replacement, and one of those damn K&N's lol.

any help is appreciated.

thanks!

Yea have fun with that oil filter. Im finding a lot of things on the 2.2's that I dont like, each one is being written down and I expect for the desiners from GM to step forward... for the guy who put the acccesorie belt tensioner under and beside a motor mount, he will be strangled with an accesorie belt, for the guy who put the oil filter on the firewall, he will be taken care of the same way I get the filter off.... stabbed with a screw driver.

Girls suck, buy a fast car.

Power wise (or lack there of), seems just like my wife's car. Changing the oil, etc. probably won't make much of a difference, at least not the type of difference or improvement that you're looking for. I'm sure it has more to do with the transmission & gear ratio.
