Uses oil but where does it go?
Monday, October 10, 2005 8:56 PM
My g/f has a '99 Z24 and it uses oil but I don't know where it goes. It doesn't burn it and it doesn't leak it. I gotta add a quart every week and a half to two weeks. Any ideas?

If it doesnt burn it and it doesnt leak it, then I dont see ANYwhere else it can go.

You proof positive no leaks or no burning? Well, only other place for it to go is into the water jacket. Check the coolant for contamination.

pull some plugs out and check the plugs to see if they have anything on them

Are you filling the oil into the crank case? Cause we had a person about 9 months ago who miss understood where the oil goes and kept putting it into his tranny.

I remember a Chev Caprice where the oil went through a seal between engine and auto transmission.

Transmission oil was VERY full and nasty looking!

Neither do I. I'm not at all new to automotive mechanics by any means. It's not in the coolant, I just changed the plugs and the old ones didn't show any signs of oil. It has a standard transmission so it won't be in there. And I've looked under it numerous times for leaks and I haven't found any.

Then your burning oil, just because you don't see burnt oil fumes in the exhaust doesn't mean oil isn't being burnt. Your just not burning a lot to notice it in the smoke. Also if the car doesn't get to operating temp before you shut it off, or the car is granny'd to much in driving style. The motor will burn oil because of a ridge that'll form in the bore. To remove the ridge, hehe..simply drive the car hard and you'll notice the motor will burn less and less oil. If your car doesn't fit into that kinda driving style, then i'd start off with a pressure test
